We don't watch a lot of TV and are not huge sport or DVD/Blue ray watchers (althought this could change with the introduction of our extension and a big fat TV). I think he has been looking at a Samsung series 5 in the 58 inch. He got a price from JB a few weeks ago of $3500. Now we have been told since that Samsung are really difficult to get a universal remote to work with, and also that a LCD could be better than a plasma. Any thoughts would be appreciated. Also do you think he would get the best deal by going to buy it today - cash? If they will do that price we know it is good, Union Shopper could not match it. Thanks Re: HELP! My husband wants to buy a TV today! 2Sep 26, 2009 9:43 am Samsung make very decent plasmas so if you've decided on that brand then know it's OK. The info about the remote is utter crap! IR codes/frequencies are all in the same spectrum for all electronic devices like this - with one exception: Foxtel (they are a little trickier). I have programmed many universal remotes to work with many Samsung plasma and LCD TVs and the TVs have never been an issue (if you do have any issues getting a universal remote to learn a device's functions then 9 times out of 10 it's a design limitation/deficiency in the remote itself). As far as how you get the best deal - no real formula - check the catalogues... Re: HELP!
