Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Sep 23, 2009 11:28 pm Hi Guys, Just wondering if it's possible to sound proof a cinema room after walls have been installed. Just like others in this forum, i forgot to upgrade the wall / ceiling batts in our cinema external walls and an internal wall that connects to 4th bedroom . They are just about to start plastering so my options are: 1. buy sound proof batts from bunnings, sneak in and change wall batts myself b4 they start. 2. Organise it after handover - Is there any type of foam i can spray into the walls??? cheers [b]Contract signed 3rd May --> Handover mid FEB Re: sound proofing 2Sep 24, 2009 10:32 am You can't install wall insulation after the plaster has been hung (even if there was a 'spray in' type for inside walls, you would still have to make a hole somewhere for each section of each cavity (divided by both studs AND noggins) to get the hose in - just can't see it being possible in any way). Re: sound proofing 3Sep 24, 2009 2:17 pm Thanks Rodda, I thought so I might have time to go bunnings, purchase sound proof insulation, go past the house & install myself - can you recommend any particular (sound proof) insulation? [b]Contract signed 3rd May --> Handover mid FEB Re: sound proofing 4Sep 24, 2009 3:31 pm Commonly used are CSR Bradford R2.5 batts. Make sure you know how wide and deep the spaces are where you are going to put these batts... Re: sound proofing 5Sep 24, 2009 6:46 pm Sound proof walls are generally 6 inches thick - any less dramatically reduces their ability to stop sound transmission. Re: sound proofing - very happy 6Sep 24, 2009 10:23 pm Hey Rodda, I went past our home to measure up the walls and found empty packets of Bradford Soundscreen insulation which has been used on all external walls. Our contract states "CSR Bradford R2.0 Comfortseal" as standard but maybe they couldn't get it. So.... it looks like we got a free upgrade! Does anyone know what the usual cost of upgrading to soundscreen is? BTW - Bunnings have no insulation in stock because of the current VIC government rebates. For your interest we are having our builder do a section of our wall ( 5m x 5m ) for $320. I know I could have done it myself but given the distance I have to travel and time limitations, I'll let them do it. My local store had some soundscreen in stock. bought some today to put in a wall I forogt to have insulated by the builder (between beds). Well I can't type very well and it should have read one room 5 x 5 mt's.... Anyone know where you can buy second hand hands that will type what you tell them too? [b]Contract signed 3rd May --> Handover mid FEB Re: sound proofing 13Oct 16, 2009 12:54 pm insulation with better acoustic properties are a complete waste of money unless you upgrade your plasterboard. Two layers of 13mm boral soundstop is a good start... you would want at least one. Soundstop plasterboard has much better acoustic properties compared with traditional gyprock. Re: sound proofing 14Oct 16, 2009 4:50 pm sound insulation without upgraded plasterboard is not a waste of time however it IS vastly improved with soundstop (& the like) plasterboard Re: sound proofing 15Oct 16, 2009 5:44 pm Double skinning with Soundstop or Soundchek etc makes a huge difference. There are also thin sound deadening materials on the market that can be applied between the sheets too. They were featured on Better Homes and Gardens a few weeks ago but I can't recall the name. Re: sound proofing 18Oct 18, 2009 2:48 pm An old myth, they deaden the sound in a room which is good for a band rehearesal studio, but they do not actually stop the transferance of sound through a wall itself Scientists have used random matrix theory to demonstrate theoretically that the neutrino mass hierarchy can be explained mathematically. When a substance is fragmented… 21 20650 thanks Chippy, i hope they have applied sealer but i am doubt to be honest, so i am gonna do this job after handover. 8 16268 Brass fly wire, you will need to cut it, shape it and jam it into brick slots 1 7464 |
