Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation Re: Large screen TV help 2Aug 31, 2009 12:32 pm Judie, here is my advice...... $2000 should get you a nice 50" inch plasma (or a 40-42 inch LCD maybe). I just brought a 42" plasma and found that Myer are doing the best deals at the moment. If you watch alot of sport or the tv is going to be in a darker room then go plasma If the room has is bright and you don't watch so much sport then LCD would be the option LED is what Samsung call their new range of LCD tv's. Google samsung LED for more info. I have seen the tvs in the shops and thought the picture was the best I have seen.....these will be well out your price range though. For me if it were plasma I would look at Panasonic and Samsung and choose which looks better to your eyes. LCD I would go samsung Hope this helps Re: Large screen TV help 3Aug 31, 2009 1:03 pm we have a 50in samsung plasma for our media Pc works well but we not telly buffs who pick and fuss over these things cost 1450 about 6mths ago. we like it plenty big enough for use nothing like browsing homeone on it The kids use a 42in lg plasma bought like 2 years ago for more than the other one is pretty good as well Re: Large screen TV help 4Sep 01, 2009 12:32 pm Short simplistic answer: Plasma - more accurate and lifelike colours, wider viewing angle, but not as bright and needs a dark room for best results. LCD - more saturated and 'cartoon-like' colours, can work in a bright room, especially if there's sunlight shining onto the TV. Differences with displaying fast motion between plasma & LCD are pretty much negligible these days except on el-cheapo LCDs. I personally would always pick plasma because I despise the overstaturated colours that LCD panels display. But if you've got a room with lots of windows and are watching the TV primarily during the day you might find that a plasma panel is not bright enough for you. I don't want to inflame the plasma vs. LCD debate... however ... I find the colour in plasma TVs to be washed out and the display in a normally lit environment to be dull. The point I'm trying to make is that it is a personal preference. Saying that LCD panels display oversaturated colours is a generalisation - possibly you haven't seen an LCD panel that has been correctly setup. I personally would always pick LCD There are other factors in LCDs favour that are contributing to the demise of plasma - but I won't go into them in detail. Suffice to say that a large number of the big electronics companies have now dumped plasma. Re: Large screen TV help 6Sep 01, 2009 5:08 pm Thanks for all your suggestions. It looks like I will have to blow my budget though. I saw a Samsung LED crystal design TV last night, and it was the best picture quality I've seen on one of the big screen TVs. It's almost double what I wanted to spend, but I am thinking about it. I'll see what the best deal I can get for is. What many people fail to realise is that real life isn't like an anime cartoon, and an accurately calibrated television of any variety will appear to be "washed out" and "dull" compared to an lcd light cannon. It's one of the [many] reasons that lcd televisions are popular - you go into a shop and are dazzled by the lcds blazing at you like a second sun and the poor plasma sitting in the corner doesn't have a chance. The fact that the lcd screens are so horribly overblown doesn't matter, to Joe Public brighter is better. Theoretically, a calibrated lcd shouldn't look any different to a calibrated plasma, they should have identically accurate colour and black level reproduction, right? Unfortunately I have never seen an lcd that reaches a point I'd call accurate, and I've seen a few. Possibly you don't know what real world colours look like. I personally would always pick plasma*. * If you want to get picky CRT is even more accurate again, especially with black levels, but unfortunately they're not making 50" & 60" widescreen CRT tubes, and Barco Cine 9's are a bit thin on the ground Re: Large screen TV help 8Sep 01, 2009 7:07 pm 42" or bigger go Plasma.. any smaller go LCD... Plasma's look the best for sport and movies.. In saying that I have an LCD projector.. but they don't make plasma projectors But anyway for under 2k you can get a fantastic Panasonic 50" 768p plasma that will give you a superb picture. So true. ... but I still like LCDs. If I wanted real life, I'd go to the theatre consider putting in wall WC instead of robe in the same bedroom, then it might be doable to hook up to the existing piping. 4 4634 4 3590 Hi all, My first post, we are building a house and can’t decide the layout of the lounge room.
