With the projector - I am assuming you will want 1080p - in which case the Epson TW3000 is probably a good choice for the money. Speakers wise the best thing I can suggest is go to a few shops and listen to some different brands to get a feel for what you prefer. I would also recommend spending at least the same amount on your audio (if not more) than you do on the visual. The PS3 will work fine as a bluray player and the best thing about it is that due to it being networkable you can update the firmware for it whenever they release updates for new bluray features. You can also stream media from a PC if you wish. Oh and its not a bad gaming console either Other things that you should let us know is what sort of room are we working with - got a floorplan you can share? Also is the setup only going to be used for HT or are you going to spend time listening to lots of music... Hope some of this helps Re: The time has come...... 3Aug 31, 2009 1:14 pm Gday Mark & Alli, We are in a VERY similar boat, geelong and a budget of $8K!! Definately get the PS3.. We went to the BPP in Hoppers on the weekend and had a look, told him our budget of $8k and he showed us what we can expect. I just feel they would be making a fair bit on top for each unit they set up. How about somebody do a budget breakdown for what Mark & Alli require: (I have no idea about any of the following, just prompting somebody who does to place the best example of something that is good for $8k) Eg. Projector: Mitsubishi HC5500 $2999.00 Screen: 102" Grandview $799.00 Amp: Yamaha RX-V1900 $1599.00 Speakers: No Idea $2500.00 (probably not enough) Cables: No Idea $200.00 Cheers Re: The time has come...... 4Aug 31, 2009 1:19 pm Not saying that this is not the place to go for answers but to get the opinion of dedicated (read obsessive) home theater "enthusiasts" there is a place in Australia called the DTV forum. Google it, there is a massive amount of info there, ask away. Also they tell you where the best buys are too! There are some excellent value for money speakers made in Australia by VAF. The AMP will be with you for just as long - assuming HDMI is here to stay. You should list what features you really need in an AMP and go from there (e.g. 7.1 support, 100W per channel, HDMI in/out, 2nd room control etc..). Don't pay for features that you will not make use of. Denon make some good gear in the $1000 price range. Yamaha, Pioneer and Marantz are equally good. Re: The time has come...... 6Aug 31, 2009 7:46 pm Thanks guys. Got a few quotes in town today. Just wondering what everyone opinion is...... Panasonic PTAX200E (wont be what i get) $2296 Herma Fixed Screen $799 ONKYO TX-SR607B amp $1387 Dali Concept center speaker $365 Dali Concept 1 Speakers $485 Dali Concept Sub $995 Dali Concept 6 Speakers $995 and.. Mitsubishi HC5500 (the one i have been eyeing off) $3800 Fixed Screen $749 RXV665 amp $1399 JBL Bal Boa Speaker Kit $1799 new Playstation 3 for blueray player. plus both have all speaker wires included, HDMI cable, Ipod Dock and outdoor speakers. Both will do better for cash, comes out around $8000. Cheers Mark Re: The time has come...... 7Aug 31, 2009 7:59 pm and don't forget the ps3 has been redesigned now and a much nicer price of $499!! Looks like a nice little slim unit now... and for $499 I don't know why you would buy any other blu-ray player. Re: The time has come...... 9Sep 01, 2009 2:44 pm I don't know much about projectors and screens, but for the speakers and amps ... those seem like RRP numbers. You should push hard for a discounted price - there is a large mark up on most of this gear. Try to get all of your speaker cable, wallplates and speaker plugs thrown in for free to secure the deal. The AMPs are both good - much for muchness. I'd lean towards the Yamaha. For the speakers - you'll just need to listen to them to see if you like them or not. Dali has a good reputation, but the Concept range has a huge markup in Australia. Have you thought of buying Australian if it is within your budget? (Sonique, Orpheus, VAF) Anyone buying speakers should think Australian first - it's the one area of electronics where we still make excellent gear. Re: The time has come...... 10Sep 04, 2009 1:29 pm That Panasonic is a bit exxy for a 720P projector (you can get quite a few 720P projectors for less than $2000). If you're looking at the Mitsi HC5500 then you should seriously consider the Epson TW3000 (the Mitsi uses an Epson-made LCD engine, as does Panasonic...). As far as amps go, I too would get Yamaha before I bought Onkyo (I think you get more bang for buck with Yamaha, it's just that Yamaha is not quite as refined as your Marantz or Denon equivalents. Whereas Onkyo seem to think they can charge Marantz/Denon prices for a Yamaha quality product...), but really I'd go for Marantz for the edge in quality... The prices you mentioned certainly do seem to be retail (the screens for example are retail prices). Hey JM - my Orpheus Aurora 3s were very nice (that was 3 sets of speakers ago ) - back when they were $1500 a pair. I find that these days the Aussie speaker market wants it's fair share of the Hi-end audio dollar and they all seem to be asking the same sort of money if not more than equivalent imports (eg. the Krix Neuphonics RRP is $3495 vs the slightly superior Paradigm Monitor 11 @ RRP $2899)... 9 24789 1 13123 Can anyone give me any onfo on New Homes WA? Good or bad, hopefully good just need to know if my choice was good or not? Thanks ❤️ 0 8936 |
