Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Jul 31, 2009 4:55 pm Hi All, We are nowhere near purchasing things for our home theatre yet but just trying to budget for it. We have decided we definitely want in ceiling speakers in our home theatre as we like the look of them. I was just wondering if anyone has used the cheaper in ceiling speakers and whether they have had any problems with them. Or does everyone always get the better quality speakers when they are using them for home theatre purposes? The room is not very big for a home theatre (Only about 4 x 4 m so we dont need anything to blow us away or anything. Just looking for something that we arent going to have any problems with. Any responses greatly appreciated. Re: In Ceiling Speakers 2Aug 04, 2009 3:42 am i've also been looking into this, i've almost decided to go with the in wall speakers from Selby http://www.selbyacoustics.com.au/storef ... 20&c=99290 , they are well priced, i should be going to the show room this weekend to have a listen to them so i'll report back! I'm going to use the in wall because I don't have a dedicated theater room and i like the look of the speakers not being as visible, but if i did have a dedicated room i would be using floor standing speakers as from my limited experience they offer the best range/sound. Regards Andrew Re: In Ceiling Speakers 5Aug 04, 2009 1:35 pm Just as a general observation "cheaper" and "arent going to have any problems with" aren't all that compatible. I've been told that the location of the speakers in relation to the listeners is important and therefore ceiling speakers can never offer better sound than correctly positioned wall height speakers. An advantage of free standing floor speakers would be greater ease if and when you decide to upgrade. It depends on your priorities of course. But if you really want something installed in the ceiling I'd be asking a lot of questions about ease of access and interchangeability. Re: In Ceiling Speakers 6Aug 08, 2009 8:17 pm well i made the journey to hallam today, i had a look at some of the inwall speakers and was surprised how good they do sound compared to the offerings at jb hi-fi, so i purchased the XQ8205.X2 for the fronts XQ6205.X2 for rears XQ6214 for centre and XPSUB12200 Sub, i still have to wait 2 months for my house to be finished until i can install them . Regards Andrew Re: In Ceiling Speakers 8Aug 10, 2009 11:06 pm hi , speakers are designed to work best in a certain sized enclosure. , which is to be a enclosure of a minimum size and a maximum size. Ceiling speakers and wall speakers have no tuned enclosure. If you listen to a speaker that is in a box and lift it out while the music is playing you'll notice the sound change radically for the worse. So in my opinion , ceiling speakers will sound like rubbish. they will sound better in the shop because the wall that their mounted in is essentially a box. They would also be very loud in the roof space without a box,as the box helps to throw the sound forward and they need less volume to drive them, the roof space is not where you want the sound to be. Your neighbours wont like it either. I don't know of any speakers that are designed to work best in open air. Even a headphones sound is not good if you lift them off your ears which essentially is the same thing. The headphones make an enclosure around your ear. I hope I have helped in some way, cheers............... Oops I see you've taken the plunge , good luck with your purchase Re: In Ceiling Speakers 9Aug 11, 2009 7:04 am We have had Hills home hub installed and we have a open plan down stairs. This neighbour agrees with you why spend so much money on floor speakers when you can get such awesome sound from the music hub. I <3 our music hub . When you install speakers use some sort of acoustic friendly material to cover the back of the speaker. For example use fibreglass/MDF sheet to make your own speaker back cone or bag whatever you want to call it. It will keep the dust away and certainly will improve the sound. How do you remove one of these ceiling air con vents? And is it possible to disconnect the duct joined to the vent from inside the house, without going into the roof cavity? 0 5943 There is water getting into the ceiling, I expected to find some holes in the corrugated roof but there weren't any so I suspect that the roof drip edge is letting water… 0 2452 It sounds like you have a crack in your garage where the wall meets the ceiling, along the shadow line on the… 0 17198 |
