Can someone please explain some of the things that can be included and would be better off doing now because it would be cheaper during construction? At this stage, I just have the standard phone and TV points being included. What else should I consider? Thanks! Re: Data Cabling Help Required! 2Jul 25, 2009 11:14 am Some of the things that hubby selected during our electricals appointment are: - Foxtel TV point - Digital tv cable -prewired network cable points - speaker surround sound other things chosen in this appointment were: - ducted vacum - intercom -alarm -surge protector - junction point Re: Data Cabling Help Required! 3Jul 25, 2009 11:48 am Whats cheaper will also depend on what you can and cant do yourself at a later date. For instance, I have had network cable / telephone points put through the house by the builder as it will be more expensive to do this later and it is illegal for me to run it myself. Roof antenna I will install to save a few dollars. We also didnt get a paytv point put in as it was $150 and we should be able to get free installation for that from foxtel. * Consider prewiring power points / phone cable for a future alarm if you not getting one now * Consider where you will want tvs in the house for TV coax cables / do u need a roof antenna for free to air TV? * Do you want networking points in the house or will use wireless networking (or none?) * Do you have a home theatre room. Do you want your speakers pre-wired. AV cables prewired? There are options now for wireless speakers * Research "Starserve" or "Delta 8" and see if these interest you * Research "c-bus home automation" I havent gone over board with cables and data poihnts, I am sure there are points that I will need installed after 5 or 6 years as technology and our lifestyle changes. We have a single story house so adding later is easier and I didnt want lots of points that I never plug anything into. It does add up fairly quickly.
