Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Jul 21, 2009 4:05 pm Hi TV experts If this topic has already been covered somewhere, please could someone point me to it; I did do a search but couldn't find what I need to know... I just rang up Optus to see if we could upgrade to Foxtel IQ (we already have Foxtel through them). They told me that it is not available to Optus customers! I was surprised, it does not seem very competitive of them. I was wondering if Tivo is an alternative to Foxtel IQ? Basically I am looking to be able to record shows to watch them later, both on free to air channels and Foxtel channels. Without having to have a dvd player that I have to buy, then learn to program, and probably stuff up anyway because all the timings are wrong... Oh, and without having to go back to the nightmare that is Telstra ... Optus is not installing IQ boxes anymore - Foxtel just do not want to give IQ boxes to Optus as they are in shortage even for Foxtel. If you want IQ - you have to get one through Foxtel or Telstra. TiVo is an alternative only if you are going to record FTA channels and order movies from blockbuster.com.au You won't get any Pay TV chennels with TiVo ACMA registered cable, Government endorsed Antenna Installer Re: Foxtel IQ not available with Optus? Is TiVO an alternative? 5Jul 21, 2009 7:21 pm donuts Oh, and without having to go back to the nightmare that is Telstra ... (sorry WBA I know you work for them ) you can just order directly through foxtel which has nothing to do with Telstra billing. And also go for iq2 if you have a HD TV.. and if you have cable you get all the HD FTA channels through the same box. Re: Foxtel IQ not available with Optus? Is TiVO an alternative? 6Jul 21, 2009 7:22 pm Bam, they did say that they had a 'limited number' of IQ 'boxes' or whatever they're called about 18 months ago, so maybe you were in that lot. Andy I know, when I referred the woman to a webpage like that she said that that was just to help people who already had their IQ boxes in the 18 months ago intake. I will try ringing again tomorrow just in case she was a 'muppet' but DH reckons he has rung before to enquire and got told the same thing not that I believe him of course "Your emotions are the slaves to your thoughts, and you are the slave to your emotions." — Elizabeth Gilbert Living in our new house. So I would just cancel my paytv with Optus altogether and call Foxtel direct? yep thats all you need to do.. What type of tv do you have? if HD then get IQ2 it is only extra $200. TIVO on the other hand is IQ2' poor cousin in comparison.. Re: Foxtel IQ not available with Optus? Is TiVO an alternative? 9Jul 21, 2009 7:38 pm well our main tv in the rumpus room (where the foxtel is) is an old chunky one - not slim line. but still works fine and will do till we can replace it. we have jsut today bought two 81cm Samsung series 5 LCDs - one for the front lounge, one for master bedroom I have to look into how to get the Foxtel to get on to those two tvs too ... I guess that's a question for another thread though is the $200 a one-off fee? Might be worth getting it anyway if we can figure out a way to get it on to the two new tvs...
