You definitely have a but more reading to do and should probably see a couple of different ones in the shops... Re: Best LCD projectors 4Jul 11, 2009 1:38 pm The size of screen I was looking at is either 104" to 110" fixed to the wall. Viewing area will be predominantly at the 4m to 4.5m range with the projector roof mounted in a dark room which measures 5m long, 4.3 wide and 2.75m high with 7.1 sound system. Was looking at Full HD to run mainly blueray through although Foxtel, Xbox 360 (HDMI) and HD Free to Air will also be attached. But movies will be the feature focus of the system. Budget for the projector alone is around the $7 - $9K (unless something comes in a lot cheaper giving the same image) PD Hayman 34 H1 Thread https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=29460&start=0 Blog http://miazfolly.blogspot.com Tiles 25/3/09 Colors 6/4/09 Tender 7/5/09 Contract 28/5/09 Land 16/11/09 Re: Best LCD projectors 5Jul 11, 2009 5:52 pm Bit of a noob question here but is there any reason why you are going for an LCD projector over a DLP? For that kind of budget there are projectors like the SIM2 Domino 60 DLP which are about 7k and full HD. These sort of projectors come highly regarded. For example http://www.audiotrends.com.au/projectors.htm Re: Best LCD projectors 6Jul 11, 2009 8:52 pm Not so much of a Nob question really. Only reason I'm looking at LCD is that it was recommended to me by a specialist store and DLP was never really raised except to point out the overall running costs, otherwise I'd be most interested in why I should consider a DLP. After all this is the reason we have forums so we can listen to both uniformed and informed opinions and make our own decisions afterwards. The cost for a replacement bulb after around 5,000hrs for most LCD's at present is around $400 I've been quoted, but as I said I'd love to hear the pro's and con's for the DLP as well. Also, DLP has a (now so small it's probably not there at all) small issue of the 'rainbow effect' that a small % of people can detect and are put off by it (so you should demo a DLP projector and make sure you can't see it). You really shouldn't need to spend $7K-$9K, unless you really can afford that extra $ for a little extra performance. The projectors in the $3K-$6K range are all excellent these days and I as a bit of a purest would be comfortable with most of them. Just do me a favour, don't spend twice as much on the vision side of your gear as you do on the sound system - it really should be even to perhaps more spent on the sound...
