Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 May 11, 2007 12:29 pm Hi all,
I'm currently fine-tuning the design our my single-storey house and planning to achieve a sound-resistant solution for my cosy 4.5m by 4m by 2.7m (h) theatre room. I've read the Gyprock level 1 brochure and wondering if that's sufficient or are there any other products available. I mentioned 'sound-resistant' as I'm on a modest budget and not sure if a total soundproofing solution would be within my reach. Sticking egg cartons on the walls is out of the question, of course I'll be carpeting the floor but I might have to skip doing anything special for the ceiling, i.e I'm thinking walls only. Is there any ball-park figure I should set aside to achieve this? I currently have a 5.1 speaker system which is about 650W RMS so I doubt there'll be enough 'doof doof' to register anything on the Richter scale. Ed Z. 2 things to try: Soundcheck plaster - its thicker than normal plaster and has sound absorption qualities. Soundscreen Wall Batts - This combined with the Soundcheck plaster should provide an affordable sound deadening solution. You will never soundproof a room for a reasonable amount of money but this will go a long way to keeping people who are not inside the room sane! As far as the roof goes if you are building now you will have R3.5 batts (or equivalent) in the ceiling and this is fine!!
