Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Jun 03, 2009 9:06 pm Hi all, As some of you know, the 2.35:1 screens and anamorphic lenses are taking over the market of HTs as they take advantage of the full images in HD Bluray movies. What do you think about them ? Any news about projectors that support 2.35:1 by default ? Would using a projector zooming-in capabilities be good enough ? Or do we have to pay for the expensive anamorphic lens ? Here are some links about these screens/lenses .. http://www.panamorph.com/ http://www.avsforum.com/avs-vb/showthread.php?t=830657 http://www.prismasonic.com/english/intro.shtml#2 Cheers Re: 2.35:1 projector screens/lenses, your thoughts ? 2Jun 03, 2009 10:30 pm expensive??? How ? errrrrrr....um.....no! The projector is an extra $3500ish! Still the lot for under $7,000 is a bargain. When you consider just the lens in some stores in $8,000 Re: 2.35:1 projector screens/lenses, your thoughts ? 7Jun 04, 2009 7:27 am mattwalker Still the lot for under $7,000 is a bargain. I'm just holding myself until our house is actually built Hopefully,by then, projector manufacutrers could come up with projectors that support both, 1.78:1 and 2.35:1. I'm still interested in the Krix speakers Matt. But looking at their RRP, I don't know how much you guys could drop their price by Re: 2.35:1 projector screens/lenses, your thoughts ? 8Jun 04, 2009 9:57 am lol! dont worry about the price ... worry about the quality Re: 2.35:1 projector screens/lenses, your thoughts ? 9Jun 05, 2009 8:18 am Their quality is definitely a top notch I will see what I could do, you guys live a million light-years away from where I live, so I need to prepare my long trip luggage before I travel from Epping to Hallam. Re: 2.35:1 projector screens/lenses, your thoughts ? 10Mar 28, 2010 8:03 pm Hi there, For what it's worth, if you are prepared to look at overseas models, you can save a fortune on Aussie RRP's. No, you won't have a local warranty, but if you buy through a company like priceusa.com.au, they can help you with any returns if possible. For example, I purchased a Mitsubishi HC6800 1080P projector landed in Oz for just over $2000. Local price can be over double that and it is a dual voltage model. No problems and works a treat. This model does have a 2.35:1 anamorphic mode, so you can achieve a cinemascope picture without a lens, however you won't be using all of your available resolution and there is about a 25% reduction in brightness. Not such an issue with this proj at 1500 lumens. You can also get the same anamorphic zoom mode with the Panasonic PT-AE4000 at $2K us. Great projector as well. Also look at the BenQ W6000. Great brightness and DLP if you like that. If you do want to go for a lens, then I can recommend using one made by Home Theater Brothers in the USA. They are now called anamorphic research and you can purchase their AR2 lens for about $995US. Absolute bargain and recommended for entry level. So, whilst I see that there is a great need for local blokes offering local service, if you are prepared to take a calculated risk, then you can save yourself a fortune. I was really on a budget and ordering OS has worked well for me. In fact, I have just ordered 3 x Klipsch KL-650THX front speakers and 2 x Danley Subs out of the USA. All strapped onto a pallet and shipped for a reasonable price from the USA. Remember, it's not the retailers shafting us but the larger companies. Ask why a $2K projector in the USA is double that over here, when the dollar is within 10% parity. Not fair! Anyways, hope that maybe I have helped you out with atleast considering an option if you are trying to get most bang for your buck. Greg. Hi everyone.
