Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 May 16, 2009 11:07 pm Hi pro, I'm planning to put cables CAT5 / CAT6 at the frame stage. On each end, what socket do I need to put in? Does it look like the pic shown as below? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ And behind the socket, should I connect those 8 cables on CAT5 / CAT6 into the thing like below? Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ I saw some of the online videos which show how to make RJ45 sockets. It seems like it is not too hard for DIY. One more question, how can the socket be plugged on the wall? Is there anything supporting behind the wall? Thank you. Thanks Pugs. We're in VIC, western sub. By the way, can it be done after handover? or better do it at frame stage? We're not sure if our site supervisor would allow us to do so. Thanks again!! Metricon Amira Re: DIY cable sockets? 6May 17, 2009 12:14 am best done at frame can be done afterwards by pre drilling the noggins and putting in a pull wire.. but at frame is easier... if your sparky has his data licence ask him very nicely maybe add a few dollars/ bottle of wine (plus the cost of the parts) so he can do it when he is in... or even if he has a mate who has his and like wise deal ... most sparkies have theirs or have a mate who does Kodiak Data Cabling onFaceBook Consult*, Design and Installation Data, TV, Home Theatre/ AV Cabling, Multi Room Audio, IP CCTV and Door Intercoms Ask for a Quote. *DIY DATA Cabling Is Ilegal Re: DIY cable sockets? 8May 17, 2009 12:46 am no worries glad i could help Kodiak Data Cabling onFaceBook Consult*, Design and Installation Data, TV, Home Theatre/ AV Cabling, Multi Room Audio, IP CCTV and Door Intercoms Ask for a Quote. *DIY DATA Cabling Is Ilegal Re: DIY cable sockets? 10May 17, 2009 1:09 am kikin May I ask you something, Pugs? Are the site supervisors normally nice? I worry they are strict and only follow the builders' instruction.... ask very nicely first, they generally shouldn't care and heck most site supers arn't there day to day generally if the sparky has installed something ..they don't care.. tho a bottle of wine doesn't go a stray. bottle of wine also means sprits, gift voucher for booze... choclates don't work on us males Kodiak Data Cabling onFaceBook Consult*, Design and Installation Data, TV, Home Theatre/ AV Cabling, Multi Room Audio, IP CCTV and Door Intercoms Ask for a Quote. *DIY DATA Cabling Is Ilegal Re: DIY cable sockets? 12May 17, 2009 1:35 am kikin Hope we will have a friendly relationship with our site supervisor.... find out what they drink, quietly and provide it when asking for any "extras" or after wards... generally as long as the right trades are doing the right thing and have licences to do what you want ... a few friendly bribes gets the job done and as many pop bys by you as you want and even keys given ahead of time Kodiak Data Cabling onFaceBook Consult*, Design and Installation Data, TV, Home Theatre/ AV Cabling, Multi Room Audio, IP CCTV and Door Intercoms Ask for a Quote. *DIY DATA Cabling Is Ilegal Re: DIY cable sockets? 13May 17, 2009 1:42 am kikin I saw some of the online videos which show how to make RJ45 sockets. Thank you. all you need is a krone push down tool and just match up the colours with the socket and push down each wire. And as far as the wall plate goes, you just need to get the metal clip things that sit in the plaster and allow you to screw the wall plate into. But you can only do the above if you are licensed of course.. Re: DIY cable sockets? 15May 21, 2009 3:08 pm It might sound it from the post above but it's actually not that simple - it takes a little bit of care and patience and a little experience too. Plus a LAN tester (or whatever you wanna call it) to make sure you didn't screw anything up... You are free to do all the data cabling and low voltage wiring you want. You need a license to do anything that directly connects to the telephone lines or for mains voltage (or any voltage above a certain level with 12V/24V being OK.) Demolition August 2009, Construction Started September 2009, Completed December 2010 Re: DIY cable sockets? 18May 22, 2009 11:31 am seeing as we're talking about the legality of running cables. We understand that running cables through your roof and installing the termination points yourself requires a licensed electrician. What about if you where to use these. http://cgi.ebay.com.au/Cat6-4x1Port-DAT ... 1|294%3A50 The only difference with that and running a cable along the floor from your router / switch is the fact that your cable will be in the roof space. And you have to install a wall plate. So with those, would you still need a licensed electrician to install? ---------------------------------------- Building the PD Lisbon 24 http://www.porterdavis.com.au/#homeviewer/lisbon/24 Blog of our progress. http://lisbon24.blogspot.com/ Homeone build thread https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?f=31&t=28665 Re: DIY cable sockets? 19May 22, 2009 12:00 pm any in wall cabling you need to have a licenced cabler or electricion. I think it is called an open cabling licence, but others more qualified here can confirm. Assuming the structure of your cabinetry is good then I would DIY everything as follows: - replace your counter tops entirely, - replace all drawer runners with soft close… 1 4836 Re my second point – yes exactly. And often it may take additional time if the manufacturer recommends no more than X meters… 3 5716 |
