Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 May 12, 2009 10:05 am I am in the process of building and am trying to get my Media Room configuration sorted out. I was thinking that I could have a fixed screen on the wall opposite the window. Then have the 2 front speakers beside the screen. I'm not sure if the right front speaker is the best position but not sure where to put it because of the sliding door. Have the rears by they couch but not sure the best location for the sub. I think put all the equipment in a TV cabinet under the screen, not sure where else it could go? I haven't bought any equipment yet and may not have any until after I move in but want to get things wired up before the plaster gets put on. Please see the picture attached and let me know what you think. I'm failry sure you can put the sub anywhere ... even behind the couches. another option would be in wall or ceiling speakers for the rears Kodiak Data Cabling onFaceBook Consult*, Design and Installation Data, TV, Home Theatre/ AV Cabling, Multi Room Audio, IP CCTV and Door Intercoms Ask for a Quote. *DIY DATA Cabling Is Ilegal Re: Media Room Config 3May 12, 2009 4:52 pm A little tricky given the window, but I would set it up like this. You are centred to the screen, still have space to walk around the lounge and the soundstage will be much better. Screen is easy - get a roll-down screen (preferrably motorised). In-wall or In-ceiling speakers for the surrounds (whether you go for 2 or 4) are a good idea, especially as they would then present no obstruction to the door and walkway at the back. The subwoofer can go anywhere in the room - and the gear (AV Receiver, DVD Player, etc.) can go anywhere in the house! - to also save on space. Possibly consider In-wall speakers for the fronts as well - just to also remove them from taking up space in the room (and you therefore wouldn't need anything for the Centre Speaker to sit on if you decided to put the AV gear in another location - although that would depend on there being room underneath the window to mount it...). Re: Media Room Config 5May 21, 2009 10:57 am I am currently desgining our new home and want to make sure leave sufficient space for a media room Currently i will simply be isntalling my Rear projection DLP TV in there 56 " diagonal so not huge. but want to be able to put some decent gear in there later . I have read some info at http://myhometheater.homestead.com/view ... lator.html and it gets confusing with the difference of maxium viewing distance and recommened THX. So for us amatuers, any suggestions for room size and future equipoment to put in. I wnat to have room for two rows . Any tips are appreciated. Damn took me ages to find this signature thingy! Re: Media Room Config 6May 21, 2009 12:05 pm Quite simply, for my next home cinema (in a state of transition at the moment ) I want a room that is 5m wide x 7m deep. My last room was 4.7m wide and was really good but as I'd like to have a slightly larger screen and heaps of width to space my front speakers appart I really want that 5m. 7m deep is good if you want to run 2 rows of seats. If you don't, then 5.5-6m deep is cool. If you can't go 5x7 then try to at least get a width over 4m and push the length to over 5-5.5m... And don't waste the effort an money on high ceilings - they have a negative impact on the sound... Re: Media Room Config 7May 21, 2009 12:29 pm Thanks Rodda. been spending the time waiting a reply on looking at your website some nice rooms creatred there. I noticed so many rooms in dispaly homes are so small lucky to be 4 x 3.5 m I am stil ldesigining the home but obviosuyl we all on busgets. every Square metre given to the media room is a square stolen from somewhere else. Another question. media room is planned on being upstaors is there a insulation in floor i should have installed. any suggestions Damn took me ages to find this signature thingy! Re: Media Room Config 8May 21, 2009 3:04 pm Robanna Another question. media room is planned on being upstaors is there a insulation in floor i should have installed. There will very likely be some ducts, pipes, and certainly wires between the floor ceiling and floor above, so you will have some stuff to dodge to do this, but you certainly can put some in (eg. R2.5 sound batts, or something like that). Definitely make sure you put a decent carpet and underlay in the Media Room too.
