Hi Nav/all,
Would having a cascaded switch near the TV - or other rooms for that matter - be a more viable option than multiple ethernet points - building from scratch that is?

Hey Steve,
I suppose that is one option but I don't like the idea of wasting one power point for a network switch, I may end up doing that though if I can't convince the electricians to be reasonable on price or get them to run conduits for us so that my friend can do the cabling. I was looking at star serve but they don't have any gigabit switches, and I'm not sure how much room their would be in the starserve racks (i.e. whether I could fit in a decent router and gigabit switch and power them inside the starserve cabinet).

So for the quotes that I have seen on this thread for a point (I think $150 ?) is that per port or per run ie if you have a 4 port faceplate is that 1 x run or 4 ?
With my builder it's per cable, i.e. 4 ports = 4*<price>. I've been told 110 each. Hard for me to justify $440 for cabling to one room when I know how much time it actually takes of a cablers to run those cables and how much it costs in materials.
