Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Apr 03, 2009 6:13 pm I Love the tips on this section of the site and lurked regularly while build was going on. Okay, so we've been in the house 3 months and the a/v set up is just not working as I envisgaed and I need some product/technical advice to find the missing link. The house has full structured cabling. A Marantz CD/Tuner in the theatre room, is connected to roof speakers in the main living area and on the back deck The PC and peripherals are in their own room (ADSL2) I have spent the last 4 years working on an extensive mp3 collection and had not expected to get CD's out of the crates ever again. PROBLEMS: * I can plug the iPod into the Marantz unit to listen to on the back deck - BUT everytime theres a dud track or volume spike, it involves racing back through the house * Ipod FM transmitter to the Marantz is not stable enough I know this sounds vague but I imagined is the following - am I dreaming? * The ability to see the Itunes library (stroed on PC) on the 2 x LCD TV's around the house and ability to control track selction/volume form multiple sources around the house. I understand I could set up a cheap wirelss system but that defeats the expensive investment in structured cabling Any help appreciated. Thanks Re: Expensive set up - not working for me - needs fine tuning 2Apr 04, 2009 4:57 pm cassius * The ability to see the Itunes library (stroed on PC) on the 2 x LCD TV's around the house and ability to control track selction/volume form multiple sources around the house. That would not be cheap at all (I say without looking too deeply into what is actually involved). However, have you seen this: http://www.qualifi.com.au/index.jsp?ref ... uct=120878 I know I want one... Actually, this is possibly the easiest, though most expensive. If you got two Apple TV devices, one connected to each LCD, you could then subscribe them to your central iTunes library. You would then be able to control the Apple TV at each LCD and playback audio/video in that area. However, you'd only be able to control the local Apple TV -- you wouldn't have control of a different location. Re: Expensive set up - not working for me - needs fine tuning 4Apr 06, 2009 12:45 pm cassius, do you already have/plan to have iphone? or is your ipod the "touch" version? if you have wireless network at home, you can buy an apple airport express for less than $200. it is able to stream your itunes library, and with free remote application for iphone/ipod touch you can control the playback (play/pause etc) anywhere around the house without having to rush back to your computer more details: http://lifehacker.com/400235/turn-your- ... sic-remote Re: Expensive set up - not working for me - needs fine tuning 5Apr 06, 2009 6:23 pm Thanks for the replies I would like to know more about the apple tv concept regarding wireless network, I am loath to go down this path having shelle dout for structured cabling Re: Expensive set up - not working for me - needs fine tuning 6Apr 07, 2009 7:10 pm cassius I would like to know more about the apple tv concept http://www.apple.com/appletv/ AppleTV supports both wired and wireless networking and has an onboard 40GB or 160GB drive (so it actually mirrors your iTunes library automatically for faster/smoother playback). It's nice and small at 20cm x 20cm and 3cm high. You can literally hide it behind the LCD itself. The nice thing is that it has HDMI and Component out, as well as both optical and stereo audio. Very nifty device. I had a similar issue with my fridge not too long ago. It wasn't the same model, but the symptoms were pretty much the same: the compressor would start and then stop… 3 7512 Okay sorry silly me, my wife has solves the mystery for me. It’s because the labels on the ports are all wrongly positioned by the builder hence it confuses me. 2 1366 Depends...
