Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Mar 16, 2009 4:41 pm Can anyone help me with how much i should be expecting to pay to have my house according the telstra velocity specifications?
All we want is.. One phone point for one phone line. One point for internet, however we want to be able to use the mac wireless anywhere in the home. We don't want pay t.v.. or anything else. Any ideas on what the cost will be? Building with PD - Regent 23 Cascades on Clyde Estate HomeOne Building Thread - PCI Completed - 28th August. Handover - 11th September. Re: Smart Wiring House Telstra Velocity - Costs? 2Mar 16, 2009 4:51 pm Well.. i just got a quote emailed to me.. which makes this post kind of pointless..
But they want $2,300 to have the wiring set up and 4 smart wired wall outlets.. I don't even want all that junk you get with it! I just want internet, thats it! Grrr. Apparently if our estate only provides optic fibre cables.. and not copper cables.. unless we pay that $2,300.. we will not be able to get ANY phone or internet services. THIS IS CRAZY. Re: Smart Wiring House Telstra Velocity - Costs? 5Mar 16, 2009 5:53 pm that is a redicoulus price... I'm paying that amount to have 10 network points and 7 tv points installed, as well as home theatre wiring.
For what you want you should only have to pay about $500. Whereabouts are you located? You don't need a starserve setup. I used a private contracter and got my setup for 2400 all up. Which included, conduit for lead in and customer cables. Hub in garage, which is just wall plates. Looks like below picture. 10 network points which can either be used for network or phone, 7 rg6 points which can be used for either FTA or Foxtel and speaker cabling to rear speakers in theatre room and alresco, hdmi cable from wall to projector mount and component cables and another network point from lounge room to theatre. http://i238.photobucket.com/albums/ff285/agardner5/Homedistributor.jpg Re: Smart Wiring House Telstra Velocity - Costs? 8Mar 16, 2009 6:13 pm wakeboardandy I'm also in a Telstra Smart Community (Optic Fibre Estate). To be honest.. i don't even know what a starserve setup is. I honestly don't know what i'm going to do. I just don't want to be paying $2,300 for things i deifnately wont be using for at least the next 5 years. Re: Smart Wiring House Telstra Velocity - Costs? 9Mar 16, 2009 6:32 pm just put it in your contract to use a third party to do it. As you shouldn't have to pay for something you don't want or don't need. Re: Smart Wiring House Telstra Velocity - Costs? 11Mar 16, 2009 7:35 pm I'm in a copper network estate in an area where pay tv is called austar - so what is the point in getting anything more than the one for phone - put in a adsl filter and then a wireless router.
might get the house pre-wired for austar in each room a TV will be placed (just about all of them) ’’Quondo Omni Flunkus Mortati ’’ If the women don't find you handsome, they should at least find you handy. Sorry I can't help you on the cost of having data and phone points installed (my builder included 3 points as part of the package) but it's my understanding that Telstra do supply a wireless router when you first connect (just don't expect a decent brand or model) so your Mac should be able to connect quite easily. DIY setup fee is $320ish. Foxtel will be available but you do not need to subscribe if you don't want to, though you will not be eligible for the $1500 (in my estate - yours may be different) that Telstra credit to your account if you subscribe to phone, broadband and Foxtel. We already paid for somfy motors for the blinds. The quote above was purely for “pre-wiring” so the blinds company can install the motors and blinds.
