Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Mar 16, 2009 11:01 pm hi, i'm in the process of starting to build a new home, i am planning to try and do a discrete theater install into the living room area, i have been looking around at in wall mount speakers and have came to a stop at Niles, these speakers look to me like they are of very good quility (im no pro) i have decided to go with the HDLCRRP INWALL http://www.audioproducts.com.au/Product ... id=HDLCRRP for the front left/centre/right, and HDFXRP INWALL http://www.audioproducts.com.au/Product ... pid=HDFXRP for the rears, i have not yet decided on a sub.
Now to my questions, i would like to know if anybody has any opinions on these speaks/and choice of speakers. Also any recommendations for fitting/mounting (pros/cons for before and after plaster fitting). Regards Andrew. Re: Niles in wall speakers 2Mar 17, 2009 9:58 am Niles stuff is very good. It's actually at the more premium end of this type of gear, and therefore priced accordingly, on the same level as the Mordaunt-Short In-walls/In-ceilings (although I think the M-S are slightly cheaper for the same level of products ).
There are, obviously, brands out there that are more high-end and therefore also more expensive, and there are many brands out there that are in a more affordable area of price while still being good quality, genuine pedigree speaker brand made stuff (Paradigm, Jamo, to name a couple). What amp are you going to power them with? How big is the room? As for a subwoofer - don't kid yourself into thinking you can get an In-wall solution. In my experience you can't unless you go to great effort and cost. It is much simpler and cost effective, and you will get a much more predictable result, if you get a decent stand-alone sub an put it in a corner somewhere. There are many, many to choose from... Re: Niles in wall speakers 3Mar 17, 2009 5:47 pm Thanks for the reply Rodda,
I have not yet decided or even looked at an amp, my main focus so far is on the speakers/ cabling and placement. The room is 3.96x3.13 but is open to the meals area, it is also tiled, from what i have found out the niles are good for this kind of setup, from the data that i have read, they have adjustment on them to help "tune" for this kind of room. They also have very good info on placement as well. As for a Sub i have never thought of anything but a free standing, Regards Andrew Re: Niles in wall speakers 4Mar 17, 2009 6:25 pm andrew1977au ... from what i have found out the niles are good for this kind of setup, from the data that i have read, they have adjustment on them to help "tune" for this kind of room. Again, just to arm you with good info, most decent In-walls etc. have those adjustments (perhaps not in all of their entry level ranges, but certainly at the same level as the Niles stuff) - often referred to as boundary or room compensation adjustments (basically a treble and sometimes a bass adjustment, usually just a + or - 3dB switch). All decent ones also have good installation instructions... Thank you again Simeon.. I will call my certifier for that.
