Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Mar 11, 2009 7:47 pm Hi all,
I couldn't add any more wording to the title, but here is my story. I'm really interested in having the Star Serve system, however PD (or Argus Technologies) seem to charge $3800 for their pro package and $100 extra for any extra data point. I'm also considering installing the acoustic batts in the walls. The big dilemma ****** here, Can I run the Cat/AV cables through the walls later after handover ? I'm even thinking of installing downlights later. Is is possible to run the downlight wires through the batts ? Having a third party to install the downlights/sound system/Star Serve will save me lots of money AND having batts in the internal walls is a MUST.. I really appreciate your inputs and suggestions Regards Re: Can network/AV cables be installed after handover ? 2Mar 11, 2009 9:09 pm you can just get the holes predrilled and or condiuts and pull wires run when you have the sparky there but at least do a few rooms as then you have "basic services " installed
offer the sparky a case of beer and supply all the mounting hardware and blank wall plates Kodiak Data Cabling onFaceBook Consult*, Design and Installation Data, TV, Home Theatre/ AV Cabling, Multi Room Audio, IP CCTV and Door Intercoms Ask for a Quote. *DIY DATA Cabling Is Ilegal Re: Can network/AV cables be installed after handover ? 3Mar 12, 2009 9:42 am If it's a single storey then pretty much all will be cool.
See if you can get the noggins rolled onto their sides anywhere you think you might want to run your cables, then you won't have to drill through them at all. Some builders don't like this, especially if they haven't been asked before-hand (I've been told by someone who built with M*con that they go as far as cutting any cabling they didn't install themselves...). Yeah I realise some companies don't allow it. We built with PD who italk are building with and we were able to install our own cabling for HT, cat5, alarm system, a few extra power points and soundscreen batts to the whole house - up and down. Maybe just ask your SS and see what he says? Are conduits usually installed at the corner of the room (behind the plaster) or in the middle of the walls ? How do you hook these conduits into the frame ? Screw them or just sticky tape them ? Do you mean that noggins (which are aligned horizontally) to be rotated around the horizontal axis to have more space (right and left) ? I'm no expert in buildings nor in this terminology, sorry Re: Can network/AV cables be installed after handover ? 9Mar 12, 2009 6:23 pm House-To-Be italk, can't you go in one weekend and do it all before plastering? Hi Toni, Well I don't know. I thought the whole networking/AV cable installation issue has to be under the supervision of a certified technician. So what I'm asking is if it's possible to do it AFTER handover (cost issues ) rather than during the construction. Re: Can network/AV cables be installed after handover ? 11Mar 12, 2009 7:16 pm seroursliy go learn some building terms.....
the noggins are horizontal between the "studs" and can only be "rotated if the builders know what is going on they usualy put two nails in each end the holes drilled in the noggings are vertical holes.... conduits are usually attached to the studs with "saddles" and usualy only need to exit the top plate about 100- 200mm that is either flexi conduit or ridged stuff. sound liek you should just pay the extra money for it to be done while you have the gyrock off. only networking and phone lines has to be done bya technician, if you want do anyting else go ahead and do it just don't expect anyone to care if there a future issues with it. depending on your lay out pre con work is usualy about $1200- $1800 retro fit at least double that Kodiak Data Cabling onFaceBook Consult*, Design and Installation Data, TV, Home Theatre/ AV Cabling, Multi Room Audio, IP CCTV and Door Intercoms Ask for a Quote. *DIY DATA Cabling Is Ilegal yes it does, you've just not understood it. theres a difference. 4 5422 Depends what you're current inclusions are, but we're not including wardrobes and will just use second hand ones until we can save later on to get them built.
