I have used a 20m cable from theatre to lounge. So will use HDMI output on foxtel box to projector in theatre and component to lounge. Also with use IR extender over cat5e so I can use remote in lounge.

Our family room is close the lounge room so it's not a problem, but I'm concerned about the Master where it's at least 14m away from the rumpus. I have used a 20m cable from theatre to lounge. Re: Got a quote for Star Serve system a bit too much ? 22Mar 16, 2009 6:38 pm I don't have a projector but I'm thinking of having one once we settle down. I had the HDMI option in mind, but I'm not too sure about the surround system. I'm not really sure where to put the speakers and whether it's worth it to pinch holes in the plaster for the speaker cables
Are speaker cables still the same old (2-wire ones) with soldered ends ? or do they have pigtails now ? Re: Got a quote for Star Serve system a bit too much ? 23Mar 17, 2009 9:14 am Speaker cables are the same as always - how they end, terminate or connect to your components and speakers can vary (plain twisted wire/soldered ends/spade or other types of lugs/banana plugs), none of which really have any impact on the quality of the result - it's more about practicality and convenience.
Soldering the ends (almost always after twisting) is about practicality - it helps protect against the wire oxidising and against them fraying. Banana plugs, for me, are for convenience if I need to disconnect and reconnect them often (if demo-ing other speakers). They don't add anything in regards to quality of the signal path... As far as Component cable run lengths go, it's analogue so it's just a matter of eventually the signal strength will drop enough and pick up enough interference that you'll notice it (which means using good quality shielded cable and perhaps an amplifier will push this range a lot further). That said, I've installed Component Video runs of 25m and more (without a signal booster), and they work fine. Re: Got a quote for Star Serve system a bit too much ? 24Mar 17, 2009 9:31 am Yeah my 20m component cable is only going to a 50inch plasma.. so it isn't a large screen and therefore the quality of the picture should be fine, even on the Foxtel HD channels. Re: Got a quote for Star Serve system a bit too much ? 25Mar 19, 2009 1:40 pm I have added the trade prices to help you out. All plus gst of course. Try and get the wholesale to give you a discount.

Thats awesome. Are you able to supply this stuff to anyone who needs it? Re: Got a quote for Star Serve system a bit too much ? 28Mar 20, 2009 12:11 pm Adding all of these values together + GST ~=$2000. So I think I got pretty decent price for them
The guy I bought it from said he'd give the prices of the previous catalogue (cheaper) , which was really nice of him Re: Got a quote for Star Serve system a bit too much ? 30Mar 29, 2009 8:22 pm tvtel I am a telecommunications contractor, I live in Laurimar and am wiring some new homes for Telstra Velocity. Just to add to that.. Will is wiring up my house and has done a great job so far. He did the prewire a couple of weeks ago before plaster went up. Re: Got a quote for Star Serve system a bit too much ? 31Mar 29, 2009 8:51 pm Great. I've written down your details and will get back to you once I know the right time to install the system. I've already got the StarServe system, the cables, and the sockets. So what I need is just for you to run the cabling and install the cabinet Are you, by any chance, an electrician as well ? I'm thinking of installing downlights after handover, and I could provide my own supply of lights Thanks Andy for bringing in your contractor's details Regards Hi, we live in an area where the black soil is prone to a lot of movement.
