Hi guys,
Just a quick question about Australian vs. non-Australian manufacturers.
For something like speakers do we pay a premium for foreign products here?
Also given that our home manufacturers aren't as well known as some overseas counterparts is it fair to assume that they are probably cheaper for a given quality/price point?
So is it worth considering Aussie speakers before overseas ones?
For example, I was considering Mordaunt-Short for fronts (MS Avant 916i), centre (MS Avant 905i) and sub (MS 309i), and I noticed that the MS 309i subwoofer is considerably more expensive here (AU $1k) than in the UK where M-S originate where it can be gotten for 250GBP (approx. AU $650). I've even read of some people getting them as low as GBP199 (AU $500) while everywhere here has it listed for AU$999.
I've heard people speak glowingly about Aussie brands like:
subsonic
krix
orpheus
sonique
richter
whatmough
aaronhifi
I know that speakers are very much a personal taste issue where some brands just "fit" better with some people, but taking that out of the equation what do you think about if bang for buck you're better off with Aussie brands compared with overseas brands.
Also given that most people keep speakers for quite a while how about the after sales support for Aussie vs. overseas.
Any thoughts/advice?
Thanks,
