ATM our two computers are connected to the internet via an ADSL broadband connection. This, as many of you would know, requires a splitter, a modem and then a router (for two computers). My question is, what device(s) do we need to connect two computers to the internet via FTTH?
According to the techo to whom I spoke to recently onsite:-
- 1. we no longer require a splitter nor modem as these functions are either no longer required or are performed by the ONT box on the side of the house - made sense.
2. we still need a router as we want the ability to connect two computers to the internet at the same time - made sense.
3. we can't use our existing router; we need to get a new special type of 'broadband' router - doesn't make sense (to me).
Can anyone shed any light on this? Our existing router is an Netgear RP614 Cable/DSL Router (10/100 Hub) which is connected to our computers via ethernet cables and SMC 10/100 PCI network cards. Do we really need to get a new router? If yes, what would you recommend?
TIA, Paul.
