Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Feb 17, 2009 4:13 pm We are at plaster stage of our construction and I have decided to postpone fully outfitting the theatre room until later ($$$).
Since the theatre room is semi-submersed in the basement, two of the walls are actually retaining the structure of the house and are double bricked with core fill. The other two walls are standard 90mm stud walls. I have been advised for the outer and inner skins to use either 13mm or 16mm fire check plaster. Apparently this is commonly used by home theatre designers as it has excellent accoustic properties? Can anyone comment or advise? Re: Fire check plaster for walls? 2Feb 17, 2009 6:55 pm There are a few plasterboard products available that are thicker and denser than standard gyprock, but their names (eg. Soundcheck) tend to suggest they are for improving sonic performance in some way (whether it's reducing sound passing through it or reflecting off it).
FireCheck sounds like it's been designed for another purpose, and I personally don't seek out a product called 'Fire something' when trying to improve the sonic performance of the room, but that's not to say FireCheck plaster doesn't improve that sonic performance. Maybe you should look it up, as well as SoundCheck and similar products from the likes of CSR Gyprock and Boral. Re: Fire check plaster for walls? 3Feb 21, 2009 7:14 am Thanks Rodda.
My plasterer suggested using fire check for my set-up since my home theatre is in a semi-submersed garage basement and would protect the valuable equipment in case of fire. Fire check plaster can give up to two hours of moderate heat protection. Another question, if I lay sound check, do I only need it for the inside skin of the wall or is it required on the outer as well? I assume inner only? Re: Fire check plaster for walls? 4Feb 21, 2009 7:24 am Just the inside. That and some sound absorbing batts behind it will go a fair way to reducing sound passing through and bouncing off the walls (bass actually passes through the plaster and bouces off bricks, so the batts will cut that down as well as other frequencies). i would suggest nothing is unreasonable for PCI. we did all sorts, including checking the hot water, checking all the GPO's had power, testing that the showers were… 9 98688 We are tossing up between a Jarrahdale radiant wood fire (the Pioneer) and a convection wood fire (Innovator or Countryman) but cannot decide on which type of wood fire is… 0 5251 Need some advice.
