I've noticed since I joined there is alot of interest in "smart wiring" or "home networking"
Here are some shots of my work.
This is a starserve system in my old bosses house. I installed this 6 years ago there abouts.
This is a larger than normal setup but it will be good for an explanation of how it works.
The top section with all the blue cables is the phone and network side of things.
The incoming phone line is terminated into a central filter before it gets here.
The phone line is then terminated onto a "harmonica" which is shown top left. It then has 8 ports all with the main phone number.
The adsl is actually in a socket behind the panel.
The 3 harmonicas in the next panel are the outlets through out the house. As you can see only 5 outlets in the house have the telephone line patched to it.
There is no data network installed here (personal choice of the client) but this is where the modem router/switch would be housed.

The bottom half of the housing is the tv system.
we ran foxtel via here to the main home theatre and then the output of the foxtel box back here to be re-distributed throughout the house from one box. (whatever is being played on that box is played on all the tv's)
This can be changed to individual boxes to suit the customers needs.
We also ran a DVD channel as well which works the same way.
The large black box on the side is the CCTV modulator. he has 3 cameras running on different channels to all tv's. Very cool when the doorbell rings and you can flip to the channel and see who is there.
This is a shot of the home theatre connections.
we had to do some funky switches due to his equipment not having A and B channels for outside speakers.
there are a few redundant connections as I wired for 4 rear speakers before 7.1 was really in.
