Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Feb 14, 2009 4:57 pm Hi
I am trying to run some speaker wire in the rumpus for future proofing (in event that we get a home theatre system). The dilemma i have is that given that we have not decided on what type of home theatre system, how should i run my wire, At the corner of the ceiling or all the way down to the floor ? I was browsing the website of JB and Good Guys and some home theatre system comes with wall mounted speaker while some comes with the tall floor speaker. We are just after a simple setup for watching TV, DVD, play some music. Any advice ? Thank you Re: Running Speaker Wire for Home Theatre 2Feb 14, 2009 5:04 pm if you have no gyprock up atm would be easier just to drill the holes and install pull wires then later on yu can install the cable later.. put in blank wall pates to where you wold want the cables to come out of the walls.
sounds likr wall mounted woldl be enough .. pull wire and blank plates either way really. at worst you have two places with blank plates if you go with wall mounted, but as you have holes in the noggins half the job is done already Kodiak Data Cabling onFaceBook Consult*, Design and Installation Data, TV, Home Theatre/ AV Cabling, Multi Room Audio, IP CCTV and Door Intercoms Ask for a Quote. *DIY DATA Cabling Is Ilegal Re: Running Speaker Wire for Home Theatre 3Feb 14, 2009 5:41 pm Pugs if you have no gyprock up atm would be easier just to drill the holes and install pull wires then later on yu can install the cable later.. put in blank wall pates to where you wold want the cables to come out of the walls. sounds likr wall mounted woldl be enough .. pull wire and blank plates either way really. at worst you have two places with blank plates if you go with wall mounted, but as you have holes in the noggins half the job is done already Sorry, what do you meant by pull wire ? We have no plaster as yet so, not sure how to put in the wall plates as well. Can you explain ? Thank you Re: Running Speaker Wire for Home Theatre 4Feb 14, 2009 5:45 pm a simple run of either 1.5mm electrical wire is a "pull wire" ie someting to pull the cables up or down with once the plaster is on ie later on... like a pull string but with wire instead...
ask your sparky to do this... he would have some off cuts he can installl wall plates you can mount a blank wall plate to where you woud install the speaker terminals you can use saddles or such to mount them onto the wall studs now to show that there will be somethng there later on Kodiak Data Cabling onFaceBook Consult*, Design and Installation Data, TV, Home Theatre/ AV Cabling, Multi Room Audio, IP CCTV and Door Intercoms Ask for a Quote. *DIY DATA Cabling Is Ilegal Re: Running Speaker Wire for Home Theatre 5Feb 14, 2009 6:04 pm Pugs a simple run of either 1.5mm electrical wire is a "pull wire" ie someting to pull the cables up or down with once the plaster is on ie later on... like a pull string but with wire instead... ask your sparky to do this... he would have some off cuts he can installl wall plates you can mount a blank wall plate to where you woud install the speaker terminals you can use saddles or such to mount them onto the wall studs now to show that there will be somethng there later on Are those metal piece in this thread the wall plate you are referring to ? https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.p ... highlight= Re: Running Speaker Wire for Home Theatre 6Feb 14, 2009 6:21 pm yes... One more question, where would you recommend putting the front and back speaker ? It will be in the rumpus room which does not have a door. One option is to put it in the 4 corners, the other is to put it at the corner where before the opening. Re: Running Speaker Wire for Home Theatre 10Feb 15, 2009 3:34 pm Hey hysterical, you're building a 2 storey place so you really need to get the wires in before the place is finished (before the plaster goes up). Simply running magical 'pull wires' does not guarantee you will be able to easily run speaker/audio/video cables after the place is finished, if at all in some cases (they can easily get caught on whatever struture they are passing over when trying to pull them through, and what happens if you can't get to or even see where that is happening?). You may find yourself cursing the decision not to run the wires when you had access before the plaster went up.
I recommend putting some thought into the setup you want, and the gear, and go about installing the required cabling before the plaster... Hi Thanks to Rodda and Pugs, yes i decided to put in the speaker cable directly instead of pull wire. Put enough speaker cable in the rumpus for a 7.1 setup, however, restricted to a wall speaker at the rear while the front can have either floor or wall. Just a simple setup to cater for a home theatre system (highly likely those that come in a box type instead of separate system. Not really a sound aficionado. Thanks again. We already paid for somfy motors for the blinds. The quote above was purely for “pre-wiring” so the blinds company can install the motors and blinds.
