Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Feb 11, 2009 11:51 am We are building at the moment and we are having HT / Lounge room. The room size is 4.5m x 5.4m. I am looking at spending about $2K for 5.1 speakers and just wanted to know would a 'style' speaker system like Mordaunt-Short Alumni fill the room well or would a more traditional style 5.1 setup be better? Re: Best Speaker 'style' for HT / Lounge room? 2Feb 11, 2009 1:15 pm The Mordaunt-Short Alumni stuff is really good, and will adequately fill a room that size (easily better than ANY Bose Lifestyle package).
That said, if you were able to stretch that budget just a little more you could get a Mordaunt-Short Avant 900i package in the same configuration (2 x 902i bookshelf speakers for the front L & R, 905i centre speaker, 2 x 902i bookshelfs or 2 x 903i dipole surrounds for the rear, and a 309i subwoofer) for just a little over $2100 - if you know who to ask... The benefit would be a little more weight in the sound (towards the lower end of the spectrum) and a little more power handling if you wanted to give it the beans every now and then (we know of someone who tried to give his M-S Genie system more beans than it was designed to handle and he fried at least two of the speakers...). I have a pair of 902i bookshelfs in my study and they are brilliant. Hi all, My first post, we are building a house and can’t decide the layout of the lounge room. We have a large N/W facing window and are wanting to have a wood slow… 0 13719 First time building 2 storey home in NSW. Below Current plan have separate balcony. But thinking to do a multipurpose lounge with balcony (kind of sunroom) in first floor… 0 4776 The Dulux colour consultants are awesome.
