I am about to (if everything goes well with this post) a Yamaha 7.1/2 AV Receiver but was looking at using a set of 5 Yamaha speakers. What are the down sides of using the 5 speakers only ? Does it effect the quality at all ? Is the 7.1 all it's cracked up to be ? Thanks in advance Phil Re: 7.1 Channel AV into 5 speaker system 2Feb 05, 2009 6:22 pm The extra 2 speakers that take a 5.1 setup to a 7.1 setup are the 2 rear surrounds that go on the back wall (as opposed to the original left and right surrounds that go on the left and right walls just behind the seating position) - which are really 2 rear centres.
They are an extra touch to fill in the space between the left and right surrounds, for when sounds pan from one side (of the surrounds) to the other. You can tell the difference when they are there, but you can still have an effective surround sound system without them, one that can still emerse you in quality sound. (the 'quality' of what you hear doesn't change, you simply don't have rear centre sounds coming out of their own speakers and instead they are produced evenly (to image in the middle) by the original left and right surrounds - which is how it was always done before the advent of 6.1 and 7.1). Yeah mine about 9 metres long and 8 wide with slope of 25% at one point but the end point of the outlet is past the side of garage and if he concretes allowing for… 4 3565 Need to remove glass panel out of concrete without wrecking the glass to get the spa room in, any recommendations on how to do that.
