Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Feb 04, 2009 9:41 pm Howdy everyone.
We have a Pioneer 50" Kuro 508 plasma (HD, not Full HD) and are building a new home. The theatre will be approx 4m x 4m. We have a budget of approx 2K. Probably looking at Krix speakers and maybe a Yammy receiver. Just wondering if anyone has any thoughts on what kind of set up would be good. And has anyone got information on prewiring speaker wire, etc. Thanks Juzzo two with sauce please Re: 2k budget for HT system? 4Feb 05, 2009 5:13 pm Why Krix? (not saying anything either way about them, just guessing you have a reason for already having chosen them...) Re: 2k budget for HT system? 7Feb 08, 2009 7:29 am There are many good brands available here, some are now more affordable than they were a decade ago too (when some others have gone up...).
When I bought my first high-end pair of speakers I heard them as well as some Whatmoughs and some Krix. In the end they didn't impress me as much as the Orpheus Aurora 3s I bought (they cost me $1500, but are now going for over $2K a pair I believe). It depends on what sort of range you are looking in (price wise) as to what options are there. As an example - the Mordaunt-Short 916i floorstanders are brilliant at $1500 a pair (or less). Re: 2k budget for HT system? 11Feb 13, 2009 8:54 am Hey Rod, about how much would I be looking at for a Morduant Short speaker system, and a suitable amp for my home theatre. And do you recommend ceiling speakers or wall speakers.
Thanks, Juzzo two with sauce please Re: 2k budget for HT system? 12Feb 16, 2009 9:39 am Hi Juzzo. Sorry for the delay in replying to this one. I posted this regarding the Mordaunt-Short speakers a few days ago:
https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.php?t=13793 As for a suitable amp/AV receiver, I stick with Marantz. Start with their SR-4003 (RRP $999, but I can do better), however upgrading to the SR-5003 pays dividends in extra features like HDMI 1.3a with Deep Colour Support and full decoding in the amp of HD audio 'bitstream' (vs PCM decoder), A-B speaker switching, and a bit more power.
