Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Feb 02, 2009 5:16 pm Hi Guys,
I am looking at buying the following AV Receiver, what are your thoughts on this. I am really open to any brand, but would like to keep around the same price range...Thanks in advance http://www.yamahamusic.com.au/products/ ... X-V663.asp Thanks again Phil Re: Yamaha AV Receiver any good ? 2Feb 02, 2009 5:18 pm Good amp...
What sort of $$$ are they slugging you? These can be had for around $880 if you know where to look Re: Yamaha AV Receiver any good ? 3Feb 02, 2009 5:29 pm $1099 but that is straight off the Yamaha website.
Does it compare well with other brands ? Do u know of a good reference site for speakers ? i guess I want to spend around the $1500 for speakers. I am unsure if I am wasting my money on the 7.1 or should I just be going for the 5 channel ? The system will mainly be used for movies and sport. I really appreciate your thoughts and any suggestions you have would be greatly welcome on what combinations to put together. Thanks in advance Phil Re: Yamaha AV Receiver any good ? 4Feb 02, 2009 5:31 pm May be worth hitting Rod up for a combo price on the Marantz SR4300 and a good Jamo or Mordaunt Short Pack...
$2500 is a good budget for and amp and 5/7 speakers Re: Yamaha AV Receiver any good ? 5Feb 02, 2009 5:32 pm Thanks very much mate I will do that and see what he says
Cheers Phil Re: Yamaha AV Receiver any good ? 6Feb 02, 2009 5:33 pm I have the Yamaha 863 and has been a very good amp so far.. one thing to note with the 663 is that it is only HDMI video switching so doesn't actually take audio.
Maybe consider the 863 for not much extra. Re: Yamaha AV Receiver any good ? 7Feb 02, 2009 5:36 pm WOW, I obviously didn't know that.
Thanks for that, it was just something I assumed all the late model AVs did, obviously not. Cheers Phil Re: Yamaha AV Receiver any good ? 8Feb 06, 2009 12:32 am The 663 does take audio over HDMI and can also decode the latest HD audio via HDMI. The major let down of this AV receiver is that is only has 2 HDMI ports. The 863 has 3. The 863 is a great AV receiver but the 663 is considered great bang for your buck.
Early Jan JB HiFi had the 663 for ~$830 but prices seemed to have really gone up recently. The main differences is 10w extra per channel and video upscaling to 1080p from anologue to HDMI on the 863. The 663 will convert anologue to hdmi but not upscale it. And the 863 has 3 hdmi inputs.. which is a big one.. as 2 on the 663 is just not enough.. Re: Yamaha AV Receiver any good ? 10Feb 17, 2009 2:09 pm Harvey Norman Have quoted me $773 for a 663 yamaha Broadmeadows store.
JB dont seem to have the price they always rave about. as they wouldnt move off there discounted price of $832? I did however get a Samsung 650 series 50 inch plasma at their boxing day sale for $1980 and Samsung even extended their Bluray offer so i got that too. Tha guy there was really helpfull quoted me $2700 on 24th dec told me to come back boxing day and held the tv until then. 9 24821 Thank you.
