I don't understand....you can get the FTA channels through Foxtel anyway? We don't even have an aerial connected at our house and just get the FTA channels through the one cable. Maybe it's a satellite thing that you can't get FTA through Foxtel or something. Gotcha....haven't recorded a program for about 10 years so wouldn't have a clue how that works these days Stevep79 & Principessa Finished building Wisdom Homes Impression 33mkII in The Ponds, Sydney http://lilypadintheponds.blogspot.com Re: Is "future proofing" a waste of money? 45Feb 18, 2009 11:56 am The Data Guys With Starserve, the foxtel signal goes to the foxtel box and from there you can pump the decoded signal back (via coax) into the system so it can be viewed on any tv. This means the single RG6 to each room carries FTA and foxtel. BUT it will be the channel decided at the foxtel box. Don't forget, this method gives you a 'down-converted to RF (Radio Frequency)' signal to those TVs, so if you have Foxtel HD it will be wasted as you will not be viewing it in HD on those TVs... Re: Is "future proofing" a waste of money? 46Feb 18, 2009 11:58 am another way to future proof is to install ducting to all rooms that is large enough to fit any future cabling needs, or at the very least get he holes drilled and pull wires/ strings installed.
ducting would then go back up into the cieling space then run another larger duct ie 50mm duct to where it should all go with multi pull wires there for lots of additions later on Kodiak Data Cabling onFaceBook Consult*, Design and Installation Data, TV, Home Theatre/ AV Cabling, Multi Room Audio, IP CCTV and Door Intercoms Ask for a Quote. *DIY DATA Cabling Is Ilegal Re: Is "future proofing" a waste of money? 47Feb 18, 2009 12:30 pm Rodda The Data Guys With Starserve, the foxtel signal goes to the foxtel box and from there you can pump the decoded signal back (via coax) into the system so it can be viewed on any tv. Yes and hence the reason I don't bother with Foxtel and or DVD being sent to multiple TV's. For Foxtel, it costs us $10/month for each additional box, and IMO if you're that hooked on Foxtel then the advantages and IMO small fee, far out way any frustrations of fighting over what each person wants to watch. BTW I'm not that hooked on Foxtel Likewise DVD and now BD players are cheap enough to have located at each video source as required. On the other hand streaming ripped video and audio via LAN is also IMO relatively cheap, being able to play your HD, SD video, and audio files simultaneously from the one source without needing to do any more than play with a remote control is were it's at for me, and not needing to worry about what others may or may not want to watch. The key to all of this IMO is to have enough in the way of flexibility in your structured wiring, and to minimise the need for in some cases expensive point to point wiring. Bingo we have a winner even like i posted above having the holes pre drilled and pull wires cuts the retro fit cost in half... our plans are to put cat6 throughout the house, this is not just for uber speed gigabit connection! cat5/6 is known to some as the magic cable you can do alot of things with that preicous blue cable other than just stream movies from your vault in your panic room! just a couple of things you can do: move files (quickly/ securely and without interference) phone connection voip connection IP camera's Power (we use it for our wifi/ power over ethernet) audio and HDMI extending! yes there are good wireless routers coming out even with draft-N speed still doesn't have the security or the perfection of a cable. turn your laptop on next time your in the car outside the front of your house even you'll see how many wireless networks are out there. and, i simply wouldnt put a tv coax aerial port in each bedroom, its a good way to keep your family further and further away from you! cinema room/lounge/family room thats it. my $0.002 -Nathan 2nd-Fix | Blog Building with Desyn Homes previously with the insolvent Endeavour Homes Scientists have used random matrix theory to demonstrate theoretically that the neutrino mass hierarchy can be explained mathematically.
