Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Jan 14, 2009 7:52 pm I am building a house and have this 5.1 home theatre system.
Do I in the lounge area ....... Keep this system and buy speaker cable and run it through the walls or ceiling out through sockets and keep speakers on their stands. Do the above and mount speakers on the wall ( they are very long!) Keep the system and have ceiling speakers installed. Buy completely new system. I have a panasonic DVD recorder and am thinking of buying a full HD 50 inch panasonic plasma . My lounge is 3.7 x 5.4 I would then eventualy like another plasma in the family room to watch music dvd's whilst we entertain. I would like a small tv in the alfresco too (My wish list is huge. lol) Or maybe a speaker out there to listen to music. This is all new to me I dont understan much of the technical stuff. Is it best to start all over again or what?????? And if so whats the starting price of this sort of thing. Just having everything installed and ready for when I buy the good bits! lol Know where your going in life............... you may already be there Re: Panasonic SC-HT17 Help needed so many options which one? 2Jan 14, 2009 11:49 pm It all depends on how much money you want to spend
If I was a pure salesman then of course I'd say buy a whole new system. It really depends on what do you realistically want from it - what level of performance, and what you're prepared (again, realistically) to pay for it. Where are you building? Who with? When? Re: Panasonic SC-HT17 Help needed so many options which one? 3Jan 15, 2009 6:29 am Just started building they will lay the slab next week.
I am in Albury/wodonga. I didnt want to spend too much now as this stuff would be a bonus if we can afford it after everything else, but then I could hold off buying all the tv reciever etc. Just though it would be best to get all the wiring etc done as the house is being built as I thought it would be easier that after. I dont even know what I would need done at this stage. Then if and when we can afford it we just hook all the equipment up through the sockets. Also I would like to be able to have music dvd going in the family room through speakers and at the same time maybe have a movie dvd running in the lounge through speakers. But if this sort of thing is really expensive could stick to 2 systems. What is best too plasma on a stand or mounted on a wall. I have wall recess in lounge that you will only see the front of the plasma, but as you walk in the family room you will see the plasma from the side and if it is on the wall see the bracket as well. Going to buy speaker cable the sales guy said to get cat 5 cable installed too. What is this? Frame is going up now so I need some advice quickly, Can anyone help???????? Also it says not too put a sub woofer in a cabinet or cupboard is it worth taking a risk with this or best to put it in a corner of the room somewhere? Know where your going in life............... you may already be there Re: Panasonic SC-HT17 Help needed so many options which one? 5Jan 27, 2009 9:21 am Cat5 cable is for computer networking, or more and more these days for carrying data between a broad selection of electronic devices including computers. Very handy (or essential) if you have equipment that uses/benefits from it.
Subwoofers shouldn't be put in cabinets - they should be on the floor. They can be pretty much anywhere in the room - corners are pretty good (good reflection of the base out of the corner). Re: Panasonic SC-HT17 Help needed so many options which one? 7Jan 27, 2009 4:28 pm Thanks for that.
I am thinking that my existing set up ie; my dvd recorder and theatre system isnt suitable for a full hd plasma ( looking at getting the panasonic viera TH-50PX80A) as they are not full hd and I dont think there are any hmdi imputs on them. So my understanding is that if I record or listen to things through these systems the picture on the plasma wont be full hd, is this right. And if I get new set up I will only have to run 1 hmdi cable from one thing to another wouldnt I? I suppose the only other thing is to buy new reciever and keep speakers, or buy new system. Either stick with matching panasonic or I read on here that a basic yamaha system is good. Which would be best do you reckon? If you get new gear then yes, get something that has HDMI inputs/outputs. If you do want the full benefit of Blu-Ray then your TV needs to be native True HD / 1080P / 1920 x 1080, and the sound system needs to be able to decode and play the HD sound formats Dolby TrueHD and DTS HD / Master Audio. Re: Panasonic SC-HT17 Help needed so many options which one? 9Feb 03, 2009 6:50 am Ok we have picked the panasonic TH-50PZ80A plasma it is a full HD one.
If I was to buy a new DVD recorder I am thinking of the panasonic twin tuner one for around $800 the other option is to double this price and go for their next version up which is the bluray one. I havnt experienced bluray yet, wondering once I have there will be no going back For a theatre package to go with this I was thinking of a Yamaha set up but which one? I have been getting a bit confused about what each model reciever does and dont know which one would suit my needs best. I think once you get up in price theres something to do with the hdmi cable can carry sound as well as video. Can someone clarify that if I go for the cheaper models that I will have to have 2 leads one for picture and 1 for sound! And if so would there be a difference in what sound I will be getting? I am thinking about having a new set up in the lounge and then putting my existing equipment in the family room.
