I am buying a 32 inch LCD to wall mount in my small lounge room and am wondering how you hide all the cables? My Dad mentioned he is getting a tube or something put behind the wall in his place. Is this the only way? Who do you ask to do this for you? I am currently building and making selections at the moment, but don't know who you make this request through. Could you perhaps even paint the cables LOL the same colour as the wall... Re: Wall mounted LCD TV - How do I hide the cables? 2Jan 09, 2009 10:42 am If you are using a flat mount, then the cables are usually hidden within the walls itself...you need to cut holes in the wall, run them through, and find an exit point for them...preferably with a faceplate.
I'm using a tilting mount myself and I just let the cables run free...I have cabinets and shelves which hides the cables... And yeah, you can get a tubey thing, paint it the same as your wall, and run the cables in/behind them. Re: Wall mounted LCD TV - How do I hide the cables? 3Jan 09, 2009 11:00 am Hi FnH, you should probably talk to your builder about running cables within the walls to come out at a point behind the proposed TV location. He should then be able to T it up with the electrician. Talk to your builder ASAP.
The 'tubey' stuff is called conduit. Yes it is pretty easy to install this afterwards but in my opinion you will be better off spending the dough to have the cables installed within the walls. Jus make sure you are absolutely sure about the TVs location. Personally I dont like wall mounted TVs, unless they are at (sitting) eye level. You usually need a cabinet near by anyway for your DVD Player, Foxtel etc. So I think why not just have your TV on it is as well? Much easier if you need to change cables, buy a new TV or decide to move your room around. Re: Wall mounted LCD TV - How do I hide the cables? 4Jan 09, 2009 1:15 pm Thanks Guys. I'm not sure yet, but I always thought that the TV mounted on the wall always looked cool, but maybe it will just look funny with only a 32 inch, I'm not sure.
What do people think for a small unit living room? Also would it be better in the middle of the long wall or the corner of the room? I have always had my tv in the corner, but thought this time for something different I would go for the centre of the wall. Thanks Kristy Re: Wall mounted LCD TV - How do I hide the cables? 5Jan 09, 2009 1:23 pm TVs on walls do look pretty cool, but you just have to make sure its not too high. When you are seated you have to look upwards unnaturally and it becomes a pain in the butt.
Put up a plan of your house or lounge room and we can have a discussion on best location. And have you thought about where you would locate your DVD player etc? Re: Wall mounted LCD TV - How do I hide the cables? 6Jan 09, 2009 1:42 pm Hey Colsy
I have considered those floating type bookshelves you see around, which I could put underneath, which look kind of good otherwise I was thinking about some sort of TV unit, which would go under the tv. I can't actually attach the unit plan in here. It doesn't allow you, but if you go here: https://forum.homeone.com.au/viewtopic.p ... sc&start=0 You will see my unit plan Thanks for your help Re: Wall mounted LCD TV - How do I hide the cables? 7Jan 09, 2009 2:09 pm You don't have to run any sort of conduit or 'tube' inside the wall, just run the cables themselves inside the wall cavity (all of these cables are insulated and usually shielded, and produce negligible heat...). Heck, all of the electrical wiring is simply run inside the wall cavity.
About the only thing to be aware of is that any noggin can potentially obstruct the running of any cable after the house is completed, so taking mitigating action against this is where you need to focus (turn the noggin on it's side or drill holes through it - big enough holes to get the ends of your chosen cables through). I don't think anyone suggested that...the conduit/tube is used when you want to run the cables outside the wall, whilst still "hiding" them neatly...
