Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Dec 14, 2008 9:12 am Hi,
We are planning to make a home threate room in the rumpus area for our new house. For the plasterboard, do we need to use something like "soundshield" shown as below? http://www.lafargeplasterboard.com.au/soundshield Also, we also concern about the wiring. Will PD do the wiring for the home theatre room use? Anyone know how much approximately for the wiring for the room with 3.8m x 4.6m size? As our house hasn't been started building yet, should we request to the builder for some changes in the rumpus area as it will be a home threate room? Is it a structural change? I also heard something like the soundscreen, is that installed in between walls for sound reduction? As I'm new, I hope you would understand my questions Thank you Re: Plasterboard for Threate room 2Dec 15, 2008 8:29 am Hi Kikin.
Some sound proof/absorbing insulation batts in the walls is a good thing, as it cuts down the level of sound passing through the walls - in both directions - as well as absorbing some of the sound that would be reflected internally (particularly some of the lower frequencies). Installing some denser plasterboard (eg. CSR Gyprock 'Soundchek') will also go toward achieving this goal. Reducing internal reflections of the higher frequencies requires a reduction of large hard, flat surfaces in the room. Carpet (wooden or tiled floors in 'Home Cinemas' hurts the sound in a real way...), curtains, soft furniture, all help to do this. As far as wiring goes, I don't know if I'd trust the builder to get it right, especially if I actually had a whole system in mind (ie. picture and sound). That said, builders like PD do allow you to do the wiring yourself (or have a 3rd party do it) if you ask nicely... P.S. Where are you building? You need to provide a way of supporting it, we use a modified timber reveal or bracket. You will be… 1 4764 |
