Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Nov 27, 2008 9:27 pm I am in the early stages of designing my home theatre setup and have my eye (ear?) on the Yamaha YHT-995 7.1 surround sound system It has an RRP of around $4,000 and am wondering whether to go with this or if I would be able to achieve better sound for the same price by mixing and matching individual components?
Any suggestions of complete systems / components around this price point? All opinions welcome. Thanks! Re: HT SOUND: better by the "box" or individual compon 2Nov 27, 2008 9:54 pm That's nearly my exact setup.. except I have NS-555 speakers and only one SW-300 sub.
I think it a great amp and the speakers are awesome. Only had it for a couple of weeks but so far very impressed. Re: HT SOUND: better by the "box" or individual compon 3Nov 28, 2008 2:27 am Have a look at Denon or Marantz A/V receivers for that price...
http://www.absolutehifi.com.au/Marantz-c-54_71.html http://www.absolutehifi.com.au/Denon-c-54_97.html I know Marantz is generally considered to be good quality, but not sure where Denon fits in the scheme of things - some people say they're high end, some people say they're similar to Yamahas... These guys also have decent prices on speaker packs - if you can afford it I'd go with the B&W 683's (I'm not saying buy from here - just gives you an idea on price...) http://www.absolutehifi.com.au/Speaker_Packages-c-66.html After 2 false starts, a year living overseas, two more world trips and 3 years of uncertainty we are now starting the build process again - hopefully for real this time! Re: HT SOUND: better by the "box" or individual compon 4Nov 28, 2008 8:43 am Yamaha are an exception to the rule "good speakers are only made by companies that only make or specialise in speakers". Yamaha's higher-end speakers like the NS stuff is very nice, and of course so are their electronics (AV Receivers, DVD Players, etc.).
A package like this is a nice one. It's not better or worse than any similarly priced package containing electronics by the likes of Marantz or Denon (although in my opinion Marantz does still go a little further in the quality stakes) and speakers from any number of quality manufacturers (of which there are many). The main thing is that it's realistic in terms of getting something that really will have a decent sonic impact in a decent Home Cinema, which is what I love to see (and hear)... Re: HT SOUND: better by the "box" or individual compon 5Dec 16, 2008 12:31 pm Yamaha YHT-995 - you should get this package for 2600$ in stores (jbhifi, good guys ) etc Hi We have a road close to our place and only an old flimsy wooden fence between us and the Neighbour closest to the road. Any ideas on a sound proof modular fence. Like… 0 7476 Grate, thank you! RexChan if thats the reason i could sleep well without thinking about additional cost.
