Browse Forums Home Theatre & Automation 1 Oct 20, 2008 6:42 pm Hi guys
I just received this quote for pre-wiring (audio/visual - including audio distribution) the new home I'm about to start building and I would really, really appreciate some comments and advice about: a) the suitability of the recommended package (i.e. is it any good?! ); and b) the approximate cost for supply and installation of the cabling etc I really have no idea about either, so any comments on experiences or expert advice would be fantastic!! I'd rather get some comments first before posting the price I was quoted (so as not to influence!!) There are some things I definitely think I can get rid of, but not sure of the overall package...Apologies also in advance for such a long post! Thanks HEAPS, Adam. Well...just a quick update, had a follow up meeting with the guy who gave me the initial quote - and i'm still completely confused! If anyone has suggestions for where to get more info on 'pre-wiring' a new house (preferably in english - or with subtitles!! ), it'd be appreciated! Thanks again, Adam Re: Pre-wire quote (supply and install) - ADVICE PLEASE! 3Oct 23, 2008 8:19 am Hi Adam.
You're right, it was a tough question, and here's why: a) Can't really answer how suitable this solution is, as that all depends on what you want - what you told the quoter you wanted. I know when I enter discussions about this stuff with clients it begins with some consultation regarding all sorts of stuff: What do you want? What do you want it to do? How much control vs simplicity do you want? What are your expectations of the system(s)' performance (ie. do you want it to look and sound really 'high-end' or are you content with considerably less?)? b) To work out relavent costing would require firstly some clarification on a) above and then more detail like floor plans etc. (to work out how much cable etc. is required). Then working out all of these requirements and costing it all will actually take a fair amount of time... Re: Pre-wire quote (supply and install) - ADVICE PLEASE! 4Oct 23, 2008 6:33 pm Hey Rod
thanks for the response and yep, i take ur point! in retrospect it was a bit of a "how long is a piece of string" question! I actually read an interesting article today suggesting that 'hard-wiring' houses for networking/media distribution/control is becoming redundant and that wireless and powerline technology is the way to go! in any case...food for thought That's a fantastic result! Happy you got it sorted out. cheers Simeon 6 8640 We already paid for somfy motors for the blinds. The quote above was purely for “pre-wiring” so the blinds company can install the motors and blinds.
