Any recommendations on places to get bulk audio cable from?
Or prices to use as means of evaluating the value of a supplier?
And what do you look for in a good audio cable?

Just a quick scan of google found http://www.essentialaudio.com.au they have seem to have better prices, but I guess I dont know what you look for in speaker cable or are they all the same? Re: Bulk Audio cable 4Oct 13, 2008 2:12 pm Cheaper???
------------- Essential Audio Large OFC Speaker Cable (13AWG) 315 trands x0.10 x2 100 metre roll = $208.50 incl shipping ------------- Ugly Cable (Selby Acoustics) Ugly 12 awg Speaker Cable 420 strands x0.10mmx2 100 metre roll = $194.95 incl shipping ------------- Thicker cable (another 1/4 as thick again) and for less money?? Cheaper .... I think not! Re: Bulk Audio cable 5Oct 14, 2008 7:56 am So I guess what you are saying in there somewhere is that 'strands' is a good metric to meausre cable by? Perhaps for the unknowing audio persons about (like myself obviously) some more infomation to help evaluate audio cable products would be helpful here? Re: Bulk Audio cable 6Oct 14, 2008 8:36 am Millky,
You asked for it! http://www.audioholics.com/education/ca ... able-gauge Generally the lower the AWG (American Wire Guage) the better and the thicker the cable will be which theoretically reduces the resistance of the signal thus giving you better sound. Pick the speaker cable suitable to the size of your room and your speakers. Personally i only use 12 AWG cables with gold banna plugs and i can actually hear the difference between a 12 and 36 AWG cable..not so much between a 12 and 14 one though so if u have the $$$ why not just get the 12 AWG one. Thanks again very helpful. Re: Bulk Audio cable 8Oct 14, 2008 10:15 am Just make sure you don't buy cable thats too think for your speaker terminals, at either the amp or speaker ends - it can happen.
That said, 14 - 12 AWG is a good area to be in for most modest, decent systems. Re: Bulk Audio cable 9Nov 10, 2008 9:36 am I've also bought cable from these guys:
http://www.academytv.com.au The sell some of their stuff on eBay also. Whatever you get, make sure that the wires are clearly marked so you know which is which when connecting everything up - some of the cheaper cables don't have anything. |
