Browse Forums Building A New House Garage - parking and storage question dilemma 2Dec 30, 2020 12:03 am My garage is very similar to yours and i have two hatchbacks. It’s enough space for us and we use up 3mx0.60m for mower n other stuff, sometimes it feels a bit tight depending on how we parked that day so you will definitely struggle to fit 2 landcruisers AND have shelving across a side wall, back wall may be ok. My neighbours own a sedan and suv and fit just fine and I’d think their garage is similar in size as well. If you can extend both width and length then that would help you a lot. I wish i did that! Re: Garage - parking and storage question dilemma 3Dec 30, 2020 6:21 am 5.45 wide will just fit 2 corolla's so left front wall 500mm minimum, right front wall 500 minimum leaves 4,45m if you are a great driver enter 100mm from either wall, leaves 220mm between cruisers, you will never get door open if right side driver goes in forward and left hand driver reverses in, it could just work passengers would have to get out before parking Re: Garage - parking and storage question dilemma 4Dec 30, 2020 9:13 am Re: Garage - parking and storage question dilemma 5Dec 30, 2020 11:40 am you will get 2 medium sized cars ( camry / magna / accord etc ) in there no problem or a SUV and small hatchback however the passengers will need to enter and exit on the driveway. x2 large SUV's will be a very tight fit, you would need to back one in and have both the drivers facing each other with the passenger sides of the car hard up against the walls to have a chance of exiting the vehicle. I said after the 1st build “ never again “ & now im on my 3rd Re: Garage - parking and storage question dilemma 6Dec 31, 2020 5:39 am on the front wall of the garage "door opening end" you will need sheer walls either side of opening so you will not be able to park against outer walls this will be your door opening zone shelves above bonnet/boot height on rear wall for storage and side walls not in door opening zone 5.45 wide is always going to be a problem our old 5.8m, i gave up and decided it was a single with storage infrastructure for ev is quite small, box on wall 500mm x 500mm and 150mm deep Re: Garage - parking and storage question dilemma 7Dec 31, 2020 12:03 pm i just pinched this link as it shows the front of garage https://www.steel-line.com.au/garage-doors-sydney/ if you look at the pictures of garages you will see a small wall each side of garage door these are sheer walls, designed to prevent garage "racking" over (leaning to left or right) height would depend on your vehicle height an suv would probably need 2m, a sedan 1.2m would suit Re: Garage - parking and storage question dilemma 9Dec 31, 2020 7:54 pm You can buy stick on foam products that you place in the right spot. https://www.amazon.com.au/Ampulla-Prote ... 1958&psc=1 Accessible Carpentry & Cabinets accessiblecarpentry@gmail.com accessiblecarpentry.com.au https://www.facebook.com/pages/Accessible-Carpentry-Cabinets/583314911709039 Re: Garage - parking and storage question dilemma 10Dec 31, 2020 8:44 pm Yes, they just stick directly to the wall, and I'd expect them to last for much longer than 6 month's if you aren't constantly banging a door into the same spot Accessible Carpentry & Cabinets accessiblecarpentry@gmail.com accessiblecarpentry.com.au https://www.facebook.com/pages/Accessible-Carpentry-Cabinets/583314911709039 Re: Garage - parking and storage question dilemma 11Dec 31, 2020 11:23 pm I see you mentioned parking LandCruiser's in the garage. A Cruiser is about 5 metres long and 2 metres wide so in a 6m long garage you could go full height 600 deep shelves and still fit in. It would be tight with little space to walk between. If you are parking smaller cars then you should be able to fit easily with full height shelves. Maybe just go 450mm deep shelves so you save a bit of space.
