Can someone please tell me the purpose of the cornice going across like this, when the ceiling either side is at the same height?
On the plans it’s listed as a “cornice soffit”

Re: Can Someone Please Tell Me the Purpose of a Corner Soffi 6Jun 11, 2021 10:21 pm it's a different way of breaking up the ceiling. these days a bulkhead / square set opening is more common where the plasterboard drops lower than the cornice (see bulkhead above kitchen in photo). designers use this as a way to frame rooms and entries to spaces. this particular builder looks to use this detail instead. it also can draw the eye away from the services hidden behind it.
