Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Dec 04, 2020 2:04 pm Hi all, So I recently left a factual, honest review of a medium sized Brisbane builder on Google and Product Review. It wasn’t emotive, was completely factual and supported by photos, and today I received an email from the Director saying I must take them down or his lawyers will commence action against me for lost sales due to my obvious malicious intent against the company, which will result in hundreds of thousands of dollars in sought compensation. My question is: has anyone ever dealt with this? We’re waiting to hear back from our solicitor, but given that a) it’s completely factual and b) can be supported by documented evidence and does nothing but state our experience, do they have a leg to stand on? As a side note, I’ve seen other negative reviewers state they too have been threatened with legal action, yet their reviews still stand, so it seems this is their standard operation. They can’t sue you. If you didn’t mention a specific person in the review, and the review was honest and not malicious, they can’t sue. Pretty sure large companies are not allowed to sue for defamation Re: Builder threatening legal action over 1star review 3Oct 22, 2023 9:57 am Hi KCKau, How did you go with the below, did you leave up your one star review and did anymore come of it? Nothing happened. Heaps of 1 star reviews have been submitted since and they’re all up too. As long as it’s factual and it’s not defaming (naming individuals) then it’s perfectly fine. Re: Builder threatening legal action over 1star review 5Oct 22, 2023 6:26 pm It’s madness that these builders think they can get away with it and make people think they are perfect with all their 5 star reviews, reviews are there for a reason. By all means if you can afford the fight, but their pockets might be deeper. Never let the facts get in the way of a true story.
