Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Aug 01, 2020 11:26 pm hi guys, I am building in Adelaide and have just noticed mold on the slab in garage and on two of the rooms as well just few days after handover. My flooring guys are about to start their work and I m bit worried how it will go? I am also worried that my builder would not have taken drainage precautions during build.. Should i write to my builder in this regard? Or is it my problem now even though i am into 3 months maintenance warranty? I am sitting slightly lower than the street level and water runs towards the property during rains. Could this be the reason? My storm water will be in place in next 2 weeks and The driveway and perimeter paving around a month away? Are there any guidelines/ rules in South Australia that lists the timeline for driveway and perimeter paving to be completed post handover? suggestions/ advice will be appreciated. Thanks Re: mold seen on slab few days after handover 2Aug 02, 2020 1:06 pm Gee! Your house is in a low spot, your drainage is not done, Why not? You obviously did not have your own independent inspector during construction, Why Not? If you don't care no one else will. I had hired inspector during last two stages only and he also had not pointed this to me... I am now seeing that the perimeter slope is towards the property on one side..should I expect some damage to the slab? What should I do to prevent more damage..and is there a way to measure the damage . The stormwater will be on 10th aug.. but if it rains until the driveway is done. Is there a temp measure which I do mys of until then... Thanks Re: mold seen on slab few days after handover 4Aug 02, 2020 2:24 pm stormwater is not really it. You would need to set up a proper perimeter drainage (e.g. spoon drainage covered with grill) as well as slope away from the house footings towards it. Re: mold seen on slab few days after handover 5Aug 02, 2020 6:15 pm Hi am worried about the damage if it would have caused to the slab...is there a way to know the extent of damage and if there is way to repair it .. or since it is a new slab does it has self healing capability? Thanks 8 6082 I'll be here once a week, lets make that Mondays. If you have a question, this will be the day I will log in for a look around.. If your lucky, sooner.
