Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 24, 2020 11:36 am Hi Anyone familiar with balcony construction able to explain these two types of construction to me. Basically house plans have been indicating a particular way the balcony was to be constructed. But then when received plans for signing off, it was changed to the one i circled in red, without me being notified ofc. Bare in mind both will be tiled Thanks Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Re: Balcony construction 2Jul 25, 2020 9:02 am Unfortunately, Builders do cheapen construction materials and details with Alternate Solutions (AS). With AS they will need to be certified as compliant Ask for the Building Surveyors Certificate for waterproofing. And is cfc an inferior alternative to modwood? What about the way they plan to build the balcony? Re: Balcony construction 5Jul 25, 2020 10:27 am Pulse The first detail is not tiled, modwood is a wood substitute board. Both details are ok, none is cheaper than the other Both will be tiled Re: Balcony construction 6Jul 26, 2020 12:32 am You wouldn't be tiling on Modwood, it's a composite decking material. I would say they have just put the wrong detail on the first plans and when they have reviewed the drawing seen that it is supposed to be a tiled floor Re: Balcony construction 7Jul 26, 2020 12:42 am Doozer1905 You wouldn't be tiling on Modwood, it's a composite decking material. Re: Balcony construction 8Jul 26, 2020 11:49 pm IMO I think the second detail is much better than the first in regards to the joint detail Re: Balcony construction 9Jul 27, 2020 2:06 pm Doozer1905 IMO I think the second detail is much better than the first in regards to the joint detail Good to know.
