Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 06, 2020 8:36 pm Hi guys, Tried finding it in the topics but couldnt find it. Has anyone changed the main door lock themselves before? My builder is charging me 865$ extra for the Trilock Omni. If i just get a normal lock, can i install it myself or should i get it done bu builder? Thanks Re: Changing Gainsborough main door lock 2Jul 07, 2020 1:01 am Omni's are only about $450-500 and they do take a little longer to install than a standard entrance set. What sort of lock does your builder install as standard? The only issue I could think of with retro fitting a Omni after is the size of the holes required to install. Most standard locks are 60mm backset so all good there. Standard locks use a 54mm lock hole and a 25mm latch hole. Omni's use a 60mm lock hole and a 22mm latch. You could make the lock hole work as you actually need to drop the lock hole slightly (and drill a second hole higher) so would need a jig to hold the hole Saw in the right spot as you drill it out. It's the latch hole that maybe just a bit too big to hide it behind the latch plate. Realistically upgrading to an omni is probably a $500-550 actual upgrade (lock and extra fitting) cost to the builder. If you get a carpenter to install after it will probably cost you around $650 and you may have a slight gap at the latch. You are looking at roughly $200-$250 extra for the hardware then a bit extra for fitting and builders margin and $340 sounds right. If the builder is using basic entrance hardware then it will easily cost you $550-600. $865 is gouging Accessible Carpentry & Cabinets accessiblecarpentry@gmail.com accessiblecarpentry.com.au https://www.facebook.com/pages/Accessible-Carpentry-Cabinets/583314911709039 The warning is on the sticker on the door too.
