Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 13, 2020 9:18 pm Hi all, I'm new here and new to the idea of building. Seems like there are some really great topics on here. I just have a (hopefully) easy question... I'm looking at a block of land - 2200m2 with a reasonably level building pad but by the time we put a house on it, the land starts to slope away leaving little space for a garden or anything else. To the side of the site, the drop is approx 5m over a run of 18m. What I'm wondering is, is it a ridiculous idea to use the level area for the house, then fill in part of that slope to use as a garden area. Basically I'm trying to avoid expensive work using fill of the quality required to support a structure - would it be possible to use fill to create a level area for a garden and potentially a small shed? A really rough contour map that I've been given is below Thanks all!
