Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 12, 2020 10:43 am What’s the solution for puddle of water close to house with cut and fill Sorry this might be a stupid question. We just had our brick washed and noticed this puddle of water close to the house. What do we need to do to make sure it doesn’t affect the foundation of the house? We build on a slope with the left side of the house higher than the right. Thanks! Why hasn't the builder fitted temporary downpipes? 3in1 Supadiverta. Rainwater Harvesting Best Practice using syphonic drainage. Cleaner Neater Smarter Cheaper Supa Gutter Pumper. The ground must also slope away from the house during construction! The pools of water are totally unacceptable and a very poor reflection on the builder. I would take lots of photos and also write a letter of complaint ASAP asking for immediate rectification. How long has this been going on? The builder/site supervisor is irresponsible. Do you know your soil type? Temporary downpipes are plastic sheaths that should be attached to the gutter pops once the roof is on. Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ 3in1 Supadiverta. Re: Puddle of water close to the house 6Jul 13, 2020 2:21 pm That's ok if the stormwater system is in place but often it isn't in which case temporary downpipes can be directed to any area. It does however look like the OP's house has a stormwater system already plumbed. Certainly no excuse whichever way in the OP's case to have flooding next to the slab. 3in1 Supadiverta. Re: Puddle of water close to the house 7Jul 13, 2020 3:16 pm alexp79 What prevents from installing permanent downpipes as soon as the roof is on? It is half a day job for the plumber on the house like this. You will laugh I'm sure at the response I got from our builder (Bryan & Petersen, Ballarat) when I asked pretty much that same exact question after I turned up one day to a 'dam' on at least one side our house.....something along the lines of....oh, nah we don't install downpipes until late in the build because the brickies might damage them. They don't like them. What a load of crap, but they could at least install those temporary ones like saveh2O has suggested. This 'downpipe' was rushed in the day that pic was taken after we called our builder with water issues outside and inside! It was a token effort considering there was nowhere for the water to actually drain to!Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Here is the front corner of the garage, again no temp downpipes installed anywhere, and land certainly not sloping away from the house.Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ So after getting sick of hearing BS excuses, I got the trenching shovel out and just dug heaps of surface drains around the property to take water away from the house as best I could.Like ⋅ Add a comment ⋅ Pin to Ideaboard ⋅ Most builders in my opinion are either lazy, stupid or simply don't really care that much...or maybe a combination?! --------------------------------------------------------------------- Check our Homeone build blog here Hi Geoff Install Puddle Flange prior to any screed. Puddle flange needs to be flush with the surface so you may need to grind away the surface to achieve this.
