Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jul 02, 2020 11:33 am Hi All, We are about to sign the build contract. We have provisioned for a gas fireplace in our living room but haven't decided on the exact model. What do we need to get the builder to do so we can get the fireplace installed after handover? For eg, gas point, GPO etc. This is my first post so please be kind to me. We've been searching online and there are a lot to go through. I was wondering if anyone here has a recent experience with any specific makes? New build - provision for a gas fireplace. 5Jul 04, 2020 10:18 pm So we were planning on doing the gas fireplace after hand over and asked the builder to include a wall / mantle with flu opening and gas point in the plans When we spoke to the fireplace people they said that doing it after handover may end up costing more because you will need to gybrock up the wall again, plaster then paint the wall so could add a bit. Things to consider - if you are getting fireplace wall build make sure it’s wide and deep enough, lots of them have a minimum depth which we hadn’t thought about. Also if you are having the tv above some have minimum height the tv needs to be away so if you are putting in a tv niche keep that in mind. Also some fireplaces need to have non combustible materials around the fireplace. We ended up deciding to do it during the build. We were only at framing stage so managed to pick a heater and organized the builder to build it to the correct specifications and use the correct material We went with heat & glo as we know ppl who have that brand and it works well. Otherwise esca (I think) is a good brand Re: New build - provision for a gas fireplace. 6Jul 05, 2020 2:17 pm Builderg Any suggestions for reliable and value for money brands of gas fireplaces. Re: New build - provision for a gas fireplace. 7Jul 05, 2020 5:09 pm We had a real flame landscape, in our last house which we loved, we were going to put in an Escea this house until we found the real flame landscape was being discontinued and we got an amazing price as a run out. We couldn’t beat the $4k saving and knowing how well it worked in our last house its was definitely worth using again, we had the smaller 1000 in our last home and it pretty much heated our 55 sq home, this time we are putting in the 1600, as the house while similar size is single story and probably needs the additional size.
