Fireplace

Hi All,

Just wondering if anyone knows if i can add a fireplace downstairs after handover? Or did i need to make sure there was some sort of provision made for it first.

Im not even sure what type of fireplace. Its just an idea at this point!

There are moves to make their use illegal. Will it be purely for aesthetics?

Yes i suppose. I would have hoped to use it to warm up the living room also.

You would need to provision a flue and gas connection (if you are going with gas) but also there are flue less options, in that case you don't really need any provisions.

Alternatively, you can consider much cheaper "emulator" fireplace which is a TV with built-in heater which is showing you burning fire picture and playing relevant sounds too.

Just to add on the question, can an electric fireplace be installed after handover ? What provisions needs to be done during construction ? Thanks

For electrical fireplace you would need a niche in the wall to fit as well as power point in that niche. You can also install it into a separate frame in front of the existing wall, too, but in that case you would have to sacrifice some floor space.

We purchased a woodburner separately as our builder doesn't do them at all, and plan to install it asap afterwards, will need to build a mantelpiece wall surround thingy, shouldn't be a problem at all
