Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Oct 02, 2008 8:23 am My upgrade package is going to cost around $19000 (yet to be confirmed) but I just don't know if it's value for money or not. It just doesn't seem to include much. Can anyone tell me if it seems to be value for money? This is what's in it:
Upgraded front door Upgraded garage door (from roller to panel) with auto opener Upgraded skirting & architrave (not really interested in these) 20mm Ceasar stone for kitchen and bathroom benches Poly cabinets for kitchen and bathrooms Upgraded Bathroom vanities (from acrylic to porcelain/china) Upgraded 900mm appliaces (not brand just size - Technika brand) Alarm To me there just doesn't seem to be much - no extra tile allowances, upgraded taps, exhaust fans etc. I'm I expecting too much? The kitchen is galley style approx 4.5 metres long and there are two bathrooms and 1 powder room. Re: Upgrade package - value for money? 2Oct 02, 2008 8:45 am Hi BADH - just to clarify, are these all things included in a package which is worth $19000, but actually costing a lot less?
If you are paying $19000, doesn't seem like that good value to me Re: Upgrade package - value for money? 3Oct 02, 2008 8:51 am Hi badh,
We are getting a similar upgrade package with that and more, but are paying $5k for it. For us it is worth it, as the caeserstone and poly cabinets alone would cost that, and we would have upgraded these anyway. As donuts said, if you are paying 19k doesn't seem good value. Bel Still not in. Don't ask!? Re: Upgrade package - value for money? 5Oct 02, 2008 9:06 am Is it a Technika dishwasher? Because if it is that is a rebranded Haier dishwasher made in China if your builder is Clarendon then it was the cheapest model about $399. I can only speak from my experience but these dishwashers are awful!!!! I had 3 replacements in 12 months maybe I had a lemon but to have 3 lemons I would say I got a bunch.
$19,000 sounds like a lot to me, I wouldn't think that it would be that much. You can find Technika appliances at Retrovision give them a call and find out the costs of the 90cm oven and cooktop. Good Luck. We now have a blog. http://allaboutthebuild.blogspot.com/ Re: Upgrade package - value for money? 7Oct 02, 2008 9:15 am When we went through the 'special' offers we worked out the 'actual' costs to us v's what the builder wanted to charge.
We actually deleted alot of what our builder supplied - all appliances, even the hotwater system, (already had a next to new gas H/W system) some tiles and got some credits and put it towards what we wanted. We didn't want to be changing things within 2-3years. I agree $19k does sound expensive. Re: Upgrade package - value for money? 8Oct 02, 2008 9:38 am $19000 value and PAY $19000! I thought it was outrageous. They do have a special pay $4000 get such and such value - the usual stone benchtops etc BUT it does not apply to our house design. I knew it was *******!!! ARRRGGHHH!!! Re: Upgrade package - value for money? 9Oct 02, 2008 10:26 am A SPECIAL OFFER for the builder I think!
Sounds like the builder wanted to take you for a fool. For that price there would have been a huge margin in it for himself. One of the big builders I spoke with was offering a monitored alarm fully installed for a special at just $499 (you had to pay the monitoring fees of course). Turned out the Alarm company supplied and installed the alarm system for free if the customers took up the monitoring contract... ******* pricks! Finally Designing and building the home I always wanted to! Re: Upgrade package - value for money? 11Oct 02, 2008 1:14 pm sound like this package is not really a package, they just charge whatever you want to be included in the house Blog - http://clageonewhouse.blogspot.com/ Building Thread - viewtopic.php?f=31&t=10886&hilit=milan I am in, with my husband and my beautiful bunny Re: Upgrade package - value for money? 12Oct 02, 2008 2:50 pm buildingadreamhome - which house are you looking at (I think you're building with W)? I still have my "specials" brochure and I don't think they mention any excluded house designs. If they want to charge you $19k, it's not worth it.
Judie Re: Upgrade package - value for money? 13Oct 02, 2008 3:18 pm Hey Judie yes it's W. The brochure I saw said it excludes the Lifestyle series which ours comes under. What was included in your specials? Re: Upgrade package - value for money? 14Oct 02, 2008 3:44 pm Hi Badh,
I will definately go for some of the upgrades like front door, ceasorstone in bathroom. For us some came standard like the ceasor stone in kitchen, cabinets, vanities and the 900 mm appliance(though no the brand) But even after upgrading all this it should not be more than 5-7k. your upgrade pakage seems to be a lot at 19k. Did you try to check with your builder how much the items are separately, keeping in mind that you may not want -skirting & architrave etc. If that is resonably priced you may not need to go for 'package' and can choose what you want to upgrade.
