Browse Forums Building A New House Re: Brick spacing & timber post 4Jun 22, 2020 9:12 pm Super64 Modern Era Constructions Super64 Hello all! Just looking for opinions on these. Red: The marked mortar joints look closer than the rest. Is this acceptable given they would have had to cut some bricks smaller to meet the dimensions of the wall? Green: This alfresco area is supposed to have a timber post inside the brick column. However, the brick column was assembled without a timber post. You can see the timber post being outside the brick column (assuming temporarily). Also, is the timber post supposed to be secured or braced to the concrete floor? The green marked, if a post was supposed to be inside the brick pier than yes the builder/SS has forgotten to ensure the carpenters have bolted a stubby post before the bricklayers brick around it. Should check plans etc and determine. I brought this up. The plan says it's a 90x90 sacrificial timber post on stirrups. SS says it's ok to be on bricks. Is the timber post required and is it critical? Well technically yes because the joint on those beams seem to be not supported. Hence why posts should have been already installed prior to brick laying. I advise you to get a building inspector in before the builder continues to move on with the house. Otherwise you are going to have a issue possibly later on. Goodluck! Building trust through excellent work. Hi all I need a guidance on how far I need to space expansion joints in the concrete driveway and its type (keyway/foam.) Contraction joints are at 3m max for a 125 slab. Thanks 0 10947 This is 100% true. You can not hang anything on steel frames. very frustrating 8 8036 Engineering timber is certainly a less fuss option, times cheaper to supply and install and better withstands humidity. 1 15922 |
