Browse Forums General Discussion 1 Jun 12, 2020 7:29 pm Hi I wanted to take advantage of the grants seeing as our construction hasn’t started yet. I’m told in WA the internal walls are brick so insulation cannot be added in-between because there’s no space unless you add another cavity. Is this true? Seems like houses over East are built with timber stud internal walls so you can add insulation like Bradford’s Soundscreen. I guess the advantage of having brick internal walls is the noise reduction right? Re: Internal brick walls VS timber stud frames? 3Jun 13, 2020 12:37 am MyFirst In WA it's standard for double brick wall. It's a good as it gets. No need to compare to people in the east building match sticks houses. Yea I know the outside walls are double brick but I was talking about the internal ones. I’m happy about brick internal walls though so I don’t need to add soundproofing to the walls Re: Internal brick walls VS timber stud frames? 4Jun 13, 2020 7:06 am Some other advantages 1.The internal Structural walls are able to support suspended concrete slab 2.Termites love eating timber 3.Vertical cored 2c Brick walls ( 20 bricks/m2) are cheaper to construct 4.Brick walls don't rot 5.On reactive soils it does require reinforcement though...that's a plus 6. No additional fire rating measures are required for brick walls 7.House Insurance is cheaper, while fire and flood fixes are cheaper 8.9.etc,etc Overall WA has a better economy, cheaper houses, Infrastructure, mining, etc The best move I ever did was go west Cheers Chris Designer,Engineer (Civil,Const & Envir),Builder,Concrete & Masonry Contract.Struct Repairs Re: Internal brick walls VS timber stud frames? 6Jun 19, 2020 10:18 pm Having double brick already gives you better thermal insulation and sound proofing compared to a brick veneer with insulation. The insulation is added because the wall is thin on a brick veneer structure. To be honest I don't know.
