Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 10, 2020 9:08 pm Hi all, new here. We are in the process of looking at building our first home, possibly with Hallmark. Just wondering what budget i should be allowing for lighting. We are really looking for anything fancy, we are happy with just the lights on ceiling fans as we use lamps and floor lamps most of the time. Thanks in advance. Re: Lighting allowance 2Jun 11, 2020 10:06 am The cost largely depends on the size of your house and what you want in there. During my quote process, a sales consultant told me for 25sq home, an average $2-2.5K should do, even if you choose LED for the entire house . Re: Lighting allowance 3Jun 11, 2020 10:35 am If it’s single story just get the standard batten lights and cheap halogen bulbs everywhere. You can enjoy selecting more expensive lights later. Get extra power points everywhere. Including In line sockets in the ceiling for easy, safe installation of downlights later if these are your choice. Consider adding dimmers to some light switches. Re: Lighting allowance 5Jun 11, 2020 8:07 pm I always recommend plenty of lights, led downlights are so affordable and great now. You can get some with 3 colour settings and dimmable if you choose to later. It is based on elec layout for a costing you should get this costed into the job though.
