Browse Forums Building A New House 1 Jun 07, 2020 6:55 pm Experts Building in Sydney Marsden Park. My builder is saying that I need to pay for reinforced concrete strip & piers because the end of the building is too (3m) close to the existing swear main in the back of the lot. This swear is already concrete encased by the land developer. 1. Provide Reinforced Concrete Strip Bridging Footings built over the top of existing sewer main. $2K 2. Provide Reinforced Concrete Piers for Bridging Footings built adjacent to the existing sewer main $2.5K Question: 1. Is this type of concrete strip bridge footing is mandatory for building OR this is just a choice of a builder? (I am very new in building and has limited idea about structural engineering) Raiyan Re: Reinforced Concrete Strip & Piers requirement 2Jun 10, 2020 2:21 pm It would more than likely be a requirement of the authority who own the sewer in the property. They will have an easement and a zone of influence, and if you are building in that zone of influence you will need to take measure to ensure that the load of the building will not be placed onto or impact the sewer. The builder has likely reviewed Sydney Waters requirements or been given advice by Sydney Water that this is required. You could ask your builder for any correspondence with Sydney Water and review it yourself, or contact Sydney Water and have your own discussions with the relevant people. https://www.sydneywater.com.au/SW/plumbing-building-developing/building/building-over-or-next-to-assets/index.htm Re: Reinforced Concrete Strip & Piers requirement 3Jun 11, 2020 9:24 am Sydney Water won't talk to you direct or at least will just point you to their website. They will tell you to engage a water services coordinator who will ask you to provide them with the relevant engineering drawings.
