No we didn't specify that - it was just recommended to do it based on standard elevations (which may have changed?). In hindsight it would probably look cleaner without it but its just the laundry so not too phased either way.

I am in the same area as you and I’ve seen your home go up! so exciting to see it come to fruition. We are now looking to build and would like your advice on TA. Have you been happy with your overall experience with them from start to completion? I have been provided an estimate for my block with all the allowances and upgrades and it comes within budget including site costs. All this after an initial exploration session with Colin. Only issue now is we’ve put a deposit in with CG and it’s been a month and we’re still waiting for the initial design appt and I am no closer to knowing if they will come within budget. Many in this post have had experience with both builders and we would appreciate any opinions. TIA
Hello! I'm excited to join your neighbourhood soon! Yes we've enjoyed the journey - there are always going to be hurdles with whatever builder you go with but overall the experience was better than we'd anticipated based on other friends past history building their homes Some of the others on this forum can probably speak to their experience also as I know some tendered with both. The most challenging parts were probably the planning stage (especially the stage you are at now in the lead up to styling), tender and the final sign off. Between this was pretty much a breeze. We always reminded ourselves that these challenges would have been present no matter which builder we had gone with. I didn't tender with CG so I can't speak of them in detail but when we had a look at them we found their prices to be slightly higher than TA for what didn't seem like a higher finish end product. Based on the volume of homes they build also I wouldn't really classify them as a boutique home builder in the same vein I would TA. TA are still small enough that Frank was involved in many steps of the process which I doubt happens in larger premium volume builders. We've had family and friends who have built with CG and we preferred the end product we saw with TA. But again this is only an outsiders experience we haven't build or tendered with them also. Perhaps just go to tender with both and then you can walk away knowing after who you feel more comfortable with and have done your due diligence.
Thanks for the advice. How did you get a chance to view the end build and finish with TA? CG has multiple homes for viewing in our area. However I am struggling to actually view a completed TA house. Did you have the same issue before deciding to go with them? Re: Thomas Archer Hue 42 Bayside Build - 2020/21 133Apr 07, 2021 2:49 pm My experience: We initially tried to have a chat with CG, however found them to be unresponsive at sales stage (which didn't bode well given they're trying to win your business). I think one of the directors left and created LB Living https://www.lbliving.com.au/ , however unsure on how good that is. From what I understand and as has been suggested in other posts, there is a significant wait for site start from contract signing (e.g. 12 months), so if you have some time limitations you may want to factor that in. I am building with TA and on the whole if I were to build again, I would definitely speak to them again to see what they could offer.
Thanks for that. Our experience with CG is a little different on the sales end. Our consultant has been first class since we first started speaking to her back in Sep 2019. We took a pause during COVID and only started up again recently. Will continue speaking with both as suggested. Re: Thomas Archer Hue 42 Bayside Build - 2020/21 135Apr 07, 2021 5:36 pm There was actually a TA house built on our current street about 5 years ago that was used as a display home. We were also able to visit 2 other display homes in 2019 + the Gallery so we got an idea of what would be a pinnacle home and then how this translated to houses within our budget. If you haven't already at the very least go to see Frank & Aimee's home/The Gallery so you can see 'the dream' and then I believe there's other previous homes they can open up as well by appointment. Also I'm pretty sure they are showing homes near end completion as I know they showed a few groups through our home just before handover (we didn't find this out until later!). Also we didn't negotiate contract extension compensation or upgrade credits. No harm in trying though. Already underway for next week. 😊 Re: Thomas Archer Hue 42 Bayside Build - 2020/21 139Apr 17, 2021 2:15 pm Wellbuild We're using Darbecca. But haven't had them do an inspection yet. We are pouring the slab the week after next (fingers crossed). Thanks! We'll be just behind you. Our pool get concreted next week then TA expected to be onsite mid May. I hope your build goes well. Would love to hear any insights you have along the way. Re: Thomas Archer Hue 42 Bayside Build - 2020/21 140Apr 17, 2021 2:20 pm We haven't had the best experience so far. I keep saying I'll create a thread about our experience and I will. But long story short with the current issue....we signed contract in Jan. Site start March 4. Delayed for two months due to VicRoads not approving our traffic management plan and TA not wanting to push them for a response. A traffic management item we are paying $18k for. We finally got approval last week, but now we wait for concreters to get sorted. TA have also advised that they wish to enact a clause in the contract to extend the contract build time due to the VicRoads issue. Oh. And (although they both seem lovely and good so far), both our building coordinator and site supervisor have been with TA for less than 3 months. So fun times all around.... We spent close to 2 years in a process with TA. It was horrible..... we got to tender, and the first cut was 50% over our budget which "they care such about meeting ". We… 18 27183 Thank you so much everyone. This all makes a lot of sense. I guess when you talk to a builder who butters up everything to look very polished, you get to start believing… 7 17507 thank you! do we need to get this or our builder before we commence new build on the block? 2 10261 |
